ST. CHARLES, Mo.- The #8 UIndy wrestling team picked up its first NCAA Division II win of the young season Saturday, defeating Lindenwood 19-17.
After the host Lions (1-1) took matches at 125 and 133, UIndy (4-3) took its first win at 141 with a major decision from #3
Nick Crume (4-1) 10-2 over Greg Jacquez to put the score at 9-4 in favor of Lindenwood. UIndy would also get a win at 149, with redshirt freshman
Kyle Barkovich (5-8) taking an 8-4 decision over Ronnie Gentile to push the score to 9-7 Lindenwood.
The Greyhounds would take their first lead after 157, with redshirt sophomore
Heath Lange (8-0) recording his sixth pin of the season in 3:18 over Shea Spradley.
Lindenwood regained the lead after taking wins at 165, 174, and 184, but redshirt freshman
Brody Conner (7-3) and #7
Dylan Faulkenberg (10-1) closed out the victory for the Greyhounds with wins in the final two bouts. At 197, Conner defeated #9 Dillon Archer 6-5 to put UIndy within two, 18-16. Faulkenberg closed out the 19-17 Greyhound team win with a 5-1 win over Jake Borgmeyer at heavyweight.
The Greyhounds will be at home for the first time this season next weekend, hosting the 38th edition of the annual Midwest Classic. Thirty-nine teams will descend upon Nicoson Hall Saturday and Sunday, with the two-day event marking the end of competition in first semester for UIndy.
