HIGHLIGHTS
Football
The UIndy football team (4-0) continued its early-season magic Saturday night, topping visiting Hillsdale, 45-38, to remain unbeaten through the first four games of 2017. Senior Martece McClinton's pick-six with three minutes left broke a 38-38 tie, helping ensure the Greyhounds' first 4-0 start to a season since 1997.
UIndy started the night by notching the game's first 23 points. The Hounds would ultimately surrender the lead late in the third quarter when the Chargers took a 31-30 advantage. That lasted all of 25 seconds, however. After a 72-yard kick return by senior Tuwan Payton, junior Malik Higgins provided an answer with his third receiving touchdown of the night and added a two-point conversion to shift the lead back to the Hounds and set up the thrilling fourth quarter.
With three minutes remaining and the score knotted at 38, Hillsdale found itself in the red zone, driving for the potential game-winning score. But on 2nd & 8 on the UIndy 13, a Hillsdale pass went off a receiver's hands, allowing McClinton to corral the ball and head the other way. The Markham, Ill., native rambled all 93 yards – the longest UIndy pick-six since 2000 – for what proved to be the game-winning score.
The Greyhounds are now ranked 10th in the Division II coaches pool, matching their highest-ever position in the national rankings.
Women's Tennis
Junior Hanna Volikova and freshman Alina Kislitskaya topped the ITA Regional doubles bracket, with Volikova also taking top honors in the singles draw, advancing them to the ITA's Oracle Cup in three weeks.
Volikova, who also was last year's ITA Regional champion, opened her tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Walsh's Clara Drasch Friday. The top-seeded Volikova then bested Tiffin's Abbie Jade Riley 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the singles draw round of 16. Volikova took a 6-4, 6-0 win over the bracket 14-seed, Oana Trus of Lewis, to head to the quarterfinals, where she disposed of Chung-Yen Huang of Drury 7-5 (3), 6-1 to move to the bracket semis. The junior Greyhound won 6-4, 6-0 in the semifinal round over Davenport's Steph Ritson, earning the right to face off with Larissa Karl of Drury, the two-seed, in the singles final. Volikova came out on top 6-2, 6-0 to earn her second trip to the ITA's Oracle Cup.
In the doubles draw, Volikova paired with Kislitskaya in the 32-team bracket. The duo, entering the bracket as the two-seed, won 8-1 in their first round match over Shea Donahue and Taylor McLaughlin from Saginaw Valley State. They then moved on to the quarterfinals with an 8-2 win over Michigan Tech's Natalia Parra Alvarez and Paola Quintana. In the quarters, the Greyhounds advanced with an 8-2 win versus Lewis' Oana Trus and Simone Parn, setting up a match with the third-seeded duo of Larissa Karl and Chung-Yen Huang of Drury. Volikova and Kislitskaya earned their trip to the final match with an 8-3 win. In the bracket final, the Greyhounds came up with the 8-5 upset of top-seeded Dora Andrejszki and Nora Mindiyarova of Lewis to earn their trip to the Oracle Cup.
Women's Golf
The UIndy women's golf team won its second tournament of the fall season on Tuesday afternoon at the Ball State Cardinal Classic. As a team, UIndy (283-286-294) won by 13 strokes in a field in which it was the lone NCAA Division II program.
Day two began with a weather delay that pushed back the shotgun-start one hour, but that failed to stop UIndy from maintaining its record pace. The Greyhounds broke a single-round record with 283 in round one and also shattered the record as a team in a three-round format. UIndy's score of 863 (-1) is the best in program history, topping the previous mark of 875 that was set at last year's NCAA Division II East Super Regional.

Head coach Brent Nicoson is extremely proud of what this group has done. "They work hard and push each other," Nicoson said. "The results this week show that."
Â
Kennedy Holtsclaw (73-68-75) finished in a tie for second in the tournament with UIndy Invitational medalist Pilar Echeverria (70-72-74). Holtsclaw's second round of 68 and first round of 73 are the lowest scores of her career.
Men's Soccer
The men's soccer team extended its winning streak to four with wins over the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles and Bellarmine Knights this weekend.
Javier Steinwascher played hero once again for the UIndy men's soccer team on Friday evening, scoring his fourth goal of the season in the 97' to defeat Southern Indiana, 2-1, in extra time.
The team won its fourth straight match on Sunday, a 1-0 win over the visiting Bellarmine Knights. The Hounds scored early, James Jenkins giving the Hounds the lead in the 8th minute with an assist from Benjamin Sierra, and the Hounds led the rest of the way.
Volleyball
Women's volleyball split their matches this week, beating Kentucky State on Tuesday before losing to No. 3 Lewis on Saturday.
After a close first set, the UIndy volleyball team cruised to a sweep of Kentucky State on Tuesday night against Kentucky State. UIndy rattled off four straight points late in the first frame to take 24-22 lead before allowing two points to the home team. Fortunately for the Greyhounds, a kill by Julia Kruzan and service ace by Olivia Martin secured the comeback victory. UIndy won the second and third sets 25-12 and 25-21, respectively.
The team looked to build off the momentum of earning consecutive victories in the past week, but the No. 3 Lewis Flyers proved too much for the Greyhounds on Saturday. The Greyhounds hung with Lewis in the opening frame, leading as late as 19-18. The visitors used four kills to help earn their final seven points of the set to win, 25-22.
Â
Lewis cruised to a second-set win before UIndy gave it a fight in the third. The Greyhounds faltered early, trailing 11-8, before securing four straight points and five of six to even the tally at 14 apiece. A kill by Mary Grace Ertel gave UIndy a 20-19 lead, but Lewis won six of the final seven rallies to sweep the home team.
Women's Soccer
The Hounds saved a point on the road against the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Friday night, as a 90th-minute goal from Ashleigh Lewis earned a 1-1 result. Both sides had plenty of opportunities in the first half, combining for 17 shots, but no one broke the deadlock until Sunny Lehman's 72nd-minute goal put the Eagles ahead 1-0. The Hounds responded just in time, as Lewis picked up her own rebound and scored in the 90th minute to level the score and send the match to extra time.
Neither side could find a winner in extra time, despite both sides having chances to score, and the match finished in a 1-1 draw.
On Sunday, Natalie Teo opened up the scoring for the visiting Bellarmine Knights with a 42nd-minute goal which gave the Knights a 1-0 halftime lead. The Hounds had opportunities to equalize in the second half, but did not make the most of them, and the Samantha Ferry's 78th-minute goal put the match away for the Knights.
