INDIANAPOLIS – The Greyhounds were not the only ones who celebrated this past Saturday, as every team across Division II celebrated the life of longtime announcer Kevin Polansky. Kevin announced the Division II National Championships for over twenty years, but sadly passed away two weeks ago. Every coach that had a swim meet today across all of Division II wore a Hawaiian shirt, in loving memory of Kevin. Thank you, Kevin, for everything you've done in the swimming community.
The Greyhounds celebrated even more as they recognized Tom Bryant, a local barber near campus, for donating an astounding $100,000 to the swimming & diving programs. For around 35 years, Mr. Bryant came in every morning to swim at the Master's program here on campus. When retiring, Tom Bryant decided to sell his shop and give all proceeds to the UIndy Swim & Dive teams. After the meet, the Greyhounds celebrated with President Rob Manuel, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Sue Willey, and swimming & diving teams. Thank you, Tom, for not only giving fantastic haircuts and the donation, but also setting an example of maintaining good health after the life of athletics.

The Greyhounds celebrated four different seniors (and one junior) that will be completing their degree & eligibility this spring. Seniors included captains
Alexis Dobrzynski,
Malvina Shoukri, Christina Vosko and
Laura Bem.
Bryanna Nixon was the lone junior who celebrated her Senior Day, as she will have enough credits completed to graduate this spring. As for the competition, it was nothing less than spectacular. Named as one of the most anticipated dual meets of this season, the crowd was charged up with excitement as the Hounds took on Grand Valley State and Lindenwood. The Greyhounds won nine of the first 14 events, even packing one-two punches in the women's 100 backstroke (
Sotia Neophytou &
Madeleine Leger) and the women's 50 freestyle (Shoukri &
Stefanie Haholiades). The men provided some outstanding wins during that span also, including a first-place finish in the first four events, with
Rodrigo Codo Berti having a part in winning two of them.
Diving provided even more to cheer for, as the action was just as competitive on the boards.
Cassie Kury performed an outstanding set of dives yet again, as she placed second on both the one and three-meter events. The dynamic duo of
Josh Zylstra and
Payton Staman won first and second place on men's three-meter, with the third-place finishes nearly 10 points behind them. The highlight of the night came on the men's one-meter though, as Zylstra broke his own record, scoring 316.3 points.
As swimming continued, the Greyhounds won the next three out of four events, including another one-two finish from Shoukri and
Krystal Caylor in the women's 100 freestyle. Towards the end of the meet, the Greyhounds secured victories in four other events, including first- and second-place finishes coming in the men's 500 freestyle (
Adam Rosipal and
Guilherme Zavaneli) and the women's 100 butterfly (Neophytou &
Darian Murray).
The biggest winners for the Greyhounds tonight came from Codo Berti (men's 200 medley relay, 100 & 200 backstroke, 200 IM) for the men, while the women were led by
Athina Konstantinidi (women's 200 medley relay, 100 & 200 breastroke) and Neophytou (women's 200 medley relay, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly). Other winners included Rosipal, Zylstra, Zavaneli, Shoukri, Murray, Leger, Stef Haholiades,
Jan Zuchowicz,
Victor Antonon, and
Ante Lucev.
The Greyhounds ended victorious against both Grand Valley State and Lindenwood on both the women's & men's sides. For the women, Lindenwood is currently ranked fourth overall, with Indianapolis at seventh and GVSU at 14th. On the men's side, Lindenwood was also ranked fourth, GVSU sat at fifth and the Greyhounds are currently at sixth. All results can be found via the link at the top of this article.
As the Greyhounds wrapped up their regular season with victories, they prepare for the GLVC Championships, which are less than a month away. The competition runs Feb. 7-10 . Live coverage tweeted on the team twitter (@UIndySwimDive), and recaps will come after each day.
