INDIANAPOLIS - UIndy volleyball head coach
Jason Reed held the program's annual postseason banquet on Sunday evening, recognizing players who earned a particular achievement in playing time. In order to be eligible for a letter, the student-athlete must compete in 30 percent of the team's matches.Â
Katie Voelz received the four-year letter winner award, along with the Kelso M. Reid Mental Attitude distinction for her senior season. "The days are long, but the years go by fast," Voelz said to the team.Â
Lauren Koopman also finished her collegiate career, earning a letterman jacket for her second season with a letter.Â
Juniors
Jena Davis,
Julia Kruzan, and
Alyssa Spears all finished their second year with the program after transferring from St. Joseph's College, while sophomores
Katie Furlong and
Olivia Martin also received a letterman jacket. After becoming the program's first All-GLVC selection outside hitter since 2014, Furlong was awarded the team MVP plaque.Â
Emily Ellis and
Taylor Jacquay each received their first-year letter with the program. Ellis transferred from Concord University this past season, while Jacquay just missed the 30 percent mark as a freshman in 2017.Â
Reed said of the 30 percent threshold, "it takes the entire team throughout the season to succeed. Only 10-15 percent of your time as a volleyball player is during matches, while the other is weights, practice, or training in the offseason. Everyone deserves recognition for the time they put into this program."
The team's training and workouts for the spring begin today.
