ON TAP
A quick turnaround for the UIndy women's basketball team after playing a make-up game with Missouri S&T just this past Monday, the Hounds are back in action in Nicoson Hall this Thursday night hosting Rockhurst before hosting William Jewell on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOUNDS vs. HAWKS
UIndy topped Rockhurust in the only meeting between the two teams last year in Kansas City. The Hounds forced 16 Rockhurst turnovers while only sacrificing 13 turnovers of their own. UIndy returns three of the starts from last year's game, all three have started during stretches of this season. In last year's game, Taylor Drury was an efficient six-of-eight from the field including two-of-three from deep and sank all four of her free throw attempts. Drury also tied for the team lead in rebounding that game in a game that UIndy escaped with a 66-64 win over the Hawks.
 
ABOUT ROCKHURST
The Hawks hit the road after a five-game home stand, going 1-4 over their last five. In their last game out, Rockhurst snapped their four-game skid with a win over Bellarmine. The Hawks used a 20 point fourth quarter to seal the 10-point win over the visiting Knights. Rockhurst shot a season-high 66.7% from three-point range in their win over the Knights while holding Bellarmine to just over 32% from the field overall.
 
Rockhurst enters this weekend as the conference's leading three-point shooting team, shooting the three-ball exceptionally well this season at a 38% clip. With a top-ranked three-point shooting team comes good shooters, two Hawks rank in the top-12 of the GLVC in three-point percentage this year, Madeline Ronshausen ranks sixth in the conference at 41.2% from deep while Briathia Sebek is 11th in the league at 37.3%. Ronshausen is the only Rockhurst player to appear in the top-15 in scoring in the conference, her 16.3 points per game average ranks third in the GLVC.
 
HOUNDS vs. CARDINALS
In their only meeting last season, UIndy traveled to Liberty, Mo., for a Saturday matchup with the Cardinals. UIndy stumbled in the second quarter of last year's game, only scoring five points in the frame. The Hounds were led by Taylor Drury in the game. Drury flirted with a double-double in the matchup, finishing with 25 points to lead all scorers and pulled down nine boards in her 36 minutes of action. Drury and Martha Burse did not get much help from other Greyhounds while Jewell had three in double-figures in the 74-66 Cardinal win.
 
ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL
Jewell heads into this week's games winners in three of their last four. Before coming to Indianapolis, they first have a date with the No. 18 Lewis Flyers in Romeoville on Thursday night. The Cardinals had their three-game winning streak snapped last Saturday at home by the visiting Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles. Before falling to USI, the Cardinals rattled off three-straight double-digit wins over Missouri S&T, Rockhurst, and Bellarmine by an average of 17 points per game.
 
The Cardinals come into this weekend as one of the toughest teams defensively in the GLVC, ranking third in the conference in scoring defense only surrendering just over 60 points per game. They also rank fourth in the league in field goal percentage defense, holding their opponents to just over 39% from the floor this season. Jewell are led in scoring by freshman Antoionette Mussorici who is averaging 12.9 points per contest for the Cardinals on 32% shooting. Mussorici's 12.9 points per game ranks just inside the GLVC top-15 in scoring at 14th. Jewell's Kiara Bradley is on the outside looking in as far as scoring in the conference, her 12.5 points a night average is 16th in the GLVC.
 
THREE HEADED SCORING MONSTER
Taylor Drury, Laura Thomas, and Emma Benoit all rank top 15 in the GLVC in points per game this season. Drury ranks sixth in the conference at 15.3 points per game, Thomas checks in at 11th with 13.6 PPG, and Benoit's 12.6 PPG is good for 15th in the league.
 
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Emma Benoit has been a force down low for the Hounds this year. The Northern Michigan transfer has recorded three double-doubles in her first season for UIndy. Benoit's first double-double came against Tiffin back in November when she put up 25 points and 10 boards in just 23 minutes of play. She put up back-to-back double-doubles against Oakland City and Purdue Northwest when she went for 19 and 14 and then 23 and 11, respectively. Benoit's three double-doubles this season is tied for 11th in program history with three double-doubles on the year.
 
CLEANING UP THE GLASS
UIndy has been owning the boards against their opponents this season. UIndy currently ranks fifth in the GLVC in defensive rebounding, pulling down nearly 27 boards per contest this season.  The Hounds rank sixth in the conference in rebounding margin (+3.1). This year's team is far superior on the boards than last year's squad, averaging more than seven rebounds per game and their +3.1 margin reigns over last year's -4.0 margin.
 
SHARING IS CARING
The Hounds average over 14 assists per game this season, up over four assists per game from last season. UIndy's 14.3 assist per game average ranks seventh in the GLVC while their assist-to-turnover ratio (0.78) ranks eighth in the league. Laura Thomas ranks top 10 in the conference in assists. Thomas' 3.6 helpers per game ranks eighth in the GLVC this season.
 
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Three true freshmen have come to campus and made an impact right away for the Greyhounds throughout the season. Taylor Dillard made her first career start for UIndy against Ashland, scoring four points and dishing out five assists in 27 minutes. Katie Sowa has back-to-back 20-point performances against Oakland City and Purdue Northwest going 17-of-25 from the field, including 10-of-13 from deep in those two games. Liz Alsot has had three games in double figures, putting up a career-best 20 points against Lake Superior State just before Thanksgiving. Another true freshman, Mya Scheidt, made her first-career field when she nailed a triple in the fourth quarter of last week's game at Drury.
 
MAKING IT RAIN
The Greyhounds as a whole shooting from beyond the arc much better than they did a year ago. Last season, UIndy was shooting 27.5% from deep, they were shooting over 40% from deep for much of this season, but still sit at nearly 35% from three-point range this season. Two Hounds are near the top in two three-point shooting categories in the GLVC. Taylor Drury ranks second in the league in almost three made triples a game, shooting 41.9% from deep (4th in GLVC). Freshman Katie Sowa is seventh in the GLVC in three-point percentage shooting over 40% from beyond the arc.
 
GOING THE DISTANCE
Two Greyhounds rank top-15 in the GLVC in minutes played this season with one of them ranking in the top-three of the conference. Laura Thomas is averaging 32.5 minutes played this season, including a career-high 39 minutes played against Lewis last week, putting her in third place in the conference in minutes played. The other UIndy player racking up the minutes this season is Taylor Drury. Drury's 29.07 minutes per game average ranks 15th in the GLVC in minutes played despite having four games this season where she played less than 10 minutes.
