Greyhounds Close Regular Season at Key Stadium Saturday

Lake Erie Storm vs.
16 UIndy Greyhounds

Saturday, Nov. 16, 2 p.m. ET, Key Stadium

ON TAP
The No. 16 Greyhounds cap the regular season by hosting non-conference Lake Erie on Senior Day. UIndy hopes to lock up a playoff spot with a win. The early kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

THANK YOU, SENIORS
UIndy will honor 15 senior student-athletes prior to the start of today's game. Danny Annee, Kyle Ball, Myles Cunningham, TJ Edwards, Nik Giles, Joe Lambright, Tyre Lee, Jack Kuerzi, Malcolm Munson, Alex Parsons, Connor Ray, Maurice Robinson, Jacob Schmatz, Robert Tucker and Rondell Weathers will be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program. The group has helped the Greyhounds to a combined 35-9 record over the last four years, a span that to date includes two GLVC titles and a likely third NCAA playoff berth.

KEY TO SUCCESS
Few programs can match UIndy's recent success at home. The Greyhounds own a stellar 42-4 (.913) record at Key Stadium since 2012, including an even more impressive 28-1 (.966) mark at home versus GLVC opponents. UIndy has won nine consecutive games at Key Stadium overall and a school-record 17 straight at home in conference play.

ABOUT LAKE ERIE
Members of the G-MAC, the Storm are wrapping up their first season under head coach Reilly Murphy. The first-year head man has guided Lake Erie to three wins through 10 games, surpassing the program's total in the last three seasons combined.

Led by senior QB Javarian Smith, the Storm top the G-MAC in passing offense at 275 yards per game, with Smith ranking 14th in Division II with 2,620 passing yards. He has thrown 16 TD passes against nine interceptions while adding five rushing TDs.On the other side of the ball, sophomore DL Justin Growel ranks second in all of Division II with 21.0 tackles for a loss and sixth with four forced fumbles.

LAST TIME OUT
UIndy rolled off 24 unanswered points in the second half to surge past No. 23 Truman at Key Stadium last week, 44-28. Al McKeller (120 yds rushing) and Ryan Topper (129 yds receiving) scored two touchdowns apiece, TJ Edwards threw for 293 yards and Miles Williams and Jacob Schmatz each garnered an interception in the victory.

RECORD WATCH
McKeller's performance versus Truman netted the Indy native a major program record in just his third collegiate season. His final rushing TD last week upped his career total to 39, setting a new school record. He also went over 1,000 rushing yards for the season, becoming the first player in program history with three such campaigns.

McKeller is also on the doorstep of the GLVC benchmark for rushing touchdowns, as he needs just one more to match the record of 40 set by Bubba Jenkins from Southwest Baptist in 2016.

PLAYOFF PICTURE
With the regular season nearly complete, UIndy remained firmly in the postseason picture after coming in at No. 5 in the Super Region Three rankings for the second straight week. The current snapshot has the Hounds going on the road for the first round, however, some shuffling still may occur before the field is announced this Sunday at 5 p.m., especially with two SR3 matchups this weekend featuring teams currently in the top seven; No. 2 Central Missouri travels to sixth-ranked Northwest Missouri State, while No. 3 Ouachita Baptist hosts seventh-ranked Henderson State.

The top seven teams from the country's four regions will earn berths in the 2019 NCAA Division II Playoffs. The No. 1 seed in each region will earn a bye, while seeds 2-4 will host first-round games. A new wrinkle was added this season, as the NCAA DII Football Committee now has the flexibility to shuffle seeds 5-7 out of region or in-region to a closer destination to cut down on the number of charter flights (i.e. 600+mile trips).

SUPER REGION THREE RANKINGS
RK SCHOOL DII REC PREV
1. Ferris State 10-0 1
2. Central Missouri 10-0 2
3. Ouachita Baptist 10-0 3
4. Harding 9-1 4
5. UIndy 8-1 5
6. Northwest Missouri State 9-1 7
7. Henderson State 9-1 9
8. Grand Valley State 8-2 6
9. Lindenwood 7-2 NR
10. Missouri Western 7-3 8

BALL SECURITY
The Hounds continue to find themselves among the nation's leaders in fewest turnovers lost. They have committed just seven turnovers in nine games this season, good for second in Division II. Last year, the Hounds led all DII teams with just 10 giveaways, marking the fifth time they ranked in DII's top 10 in the last eight years. In fact, the Hounds set the DII record for fewest giveaways in a season in 2011 with six, a mark since tied (Fort Lewis, 2015) but yet unbroken.

SCORING UPDATE
At a gaudy 46.8 points per game, the Greyhounds rank fifth in Division II in scoring offense heading into the final week of the regular season. That average easily surpasses the current program record for a season – 38.2 ppg set in 2017.
