INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy football team capped the inaugural Southside Saturday with its annual Spring Game. On a rainy afternoon, Team Grey edged Team Black, 9-3, on a last-second, 34-yard touchdown catch by Taylor Clark.
 
The weather did little to dampen the crowd and its enthusiasm for the Southside Saturday festivities. Between the tailgating, the live music and food trucks, Grady II's birthday celebration and other family-friendly activities, the day was filled with fun for all ages.
 
The capper was the UIndy football Spring Game, which provided a fitting exclamation mark. With the score knotted at 3-3 late in the fourth quarter, safety Jordan Lee came up with a timely interception and 35-yard return to give the Team Grey offense a chance. With the ball on Team Black's 34-yard line and just two seconds on the clock, redshirt-freshman QB Holland Harris launched a deep ball to the end zone. The ball was tipped multiple times before Clark finally squeezed it in the back of the zone as time expired.
 
The only other scoring came on field goals, as Team Black's Nicolas Schnelle connected from 35 yards in the first quarter before Andrew Herron got Team Grey on the board early in the fourth quarter with a 49 yarder.
 
Saginaw Valley-transfer Nick Patterson got the start at quarterback for Team Grey. The Mooresville, Ind., native threw only seven passes but completed each of his last five attempts. Juseters Fataki led all rushers with 25 yards on six carries, while Cayden Olinger amassed three receptions for 32 yards.
 
Defensively, Team Black was topped by TJ Cothron and his six total tackles. Wrigley Franklin had three sacks, while Jerrell Franklin Jr. had four tackles and a pass break-up.
