Alyssa Spears was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team on Tuesday afternoon, becoming the first Greyhound volleyball player in program history to earn the prestigious award. The teams are selected by the nation's DII sports information directors.

The setter wrapped up her career as a three-time All-GLVC player, including earning unanimous first-team honors this fall. Spears currently sports a 3.91 GPA as a Social Work major.

The Bedford North Lawrence product is now the 97th Greyhound ever to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Spears averaged 11.35 assists/set this past season to finish with 3,169 helpers in her three-year career. The Heltonville, Ind., native ranks sixth in program history in assists, and is the lone setter in the top 10 who played just three seasons. Overall, Spears recorded 4,109 career assists after handing out 940 as a freshman at St. Joseph's College in 2016.

Spears led the Greyhounds to their first NCAA Midwest Regional appearance since 2014, including the team's first win at the GLVC Championship Tournament since 2015. UIndy fell to Hillsdale in the NCAA quarterfinal, who eventually lost to Rockhurst in the regional championship.
Teammate
Katie Furlong was named a 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, while former Greyhound Kyleigh Turner earned NCAA Elite 88 status back in 2009.
