ON TAP
The UIndy women's basketball team is back in action with a pair of conference games to open up 2020. The Hounds host Lewis and Illinois Springfield in Nicoson Hall as they play four of their next five at home.
Â
HOUNDS vs. FLYERS
UIndy and Lewis' series goes all the way back to the 1980's with Lewis leading the all-time series 41-34 over the Hounds. Lewis has had UIndy's number over the last few seasons as the Greyhounds have just one win over the Flyers since 2013. The Hounds nearly pulled off the upset on Lewis' home floor last in December 2018 when the Flyers were ranked No. 24 in the country. Lewis later came to Nicoson Hall to beat UIndy later in the year as well.
Â
ABOUT LEWIS
At a record of 4-5, Lewis has struggled to start the year after making the last seven NCAA tournaments. The Flyers won two of their final three games to round out the calendar year, dropping their last game to Parkside after the Rangers shot over 53% from the field. Lewis played UIndy's Saturday opponent Illinois Springfield in their GLVC opener in December, beating the Prairie Stars in Romeoville.
Â
The Flyers have only one scorer in double figures so far this season. Senior forward Rachel Hinders averages over 16 points while playing over 27 minutes per game in 2019, also leading her team in rebounds at 7.2 boards a contest. It has been a team effort for the Flyers this year in effort to replace All-American forward Jessica Kelliher. Helping Hinders down low is senior forward Morgan Glatczak who registered six blocks in one of Lewis' win over UIndy a season ago.
Â
HOUNDS vs. PRAIRIE STARS
UIndy and Illinois Springfield only met once last season with UIS picking up their first win ever against the Greyhounds at the TRAC in Springfield. Since the Prairie Stars joined the GLVC in 2009, UIndy has owned the series between the two programs, going 8-1 dating back to 2010.
Â
ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD
UIS comes into 2020 with a record of 5-4 and 0-1 in conference play. Having already played Lewis back in early December, the Prairie Stars were tasked with a tough GLVC schedule in Coach Casey Thousand's first season in Springfield. Before coming to Nicoson Hall Saturday afternoon, Springfield will make a stop in Louisville to face Bellarmine Thursday night in Knights Hall.
Â
Just a sophomore this season, Lauren Ladowski finds herself in the top-10 in scoring in the GLVC this year, averaging 16 points a game for 7th-best in the conference. Ladowski does most of her damage inside the arc as well as the foul line as she leads the GLVC in free throws made and attempted (51-of-71). Three other Prairie Stars average double-figures this season. Jasmine Sangster, Malea Jackson, Tehya Fortune all put up 10.6, 10.3, and 10.0 a night, respectively.
Â
BEING EFFICIENT
UIndy's 10.7 scoring margin in good for 4th in the GLVC, but the Greyhounds have bucked the three-point trend. The three-point shot has become a big part across basketball in past years. Despite an 8-1 record, UIndy's offense has come from inside the arc as the Hounds rank last in Division II in three-pointers attempted as the Hounds sport an efficient offense.
Â
HOT START
Heading into conference play with an 8-1 record and one GLVC win already, the Hounds are off to their best start since 2012 when they started 11-1 on their way to an NCAA tournament appearance.
Â
SEEING DOUBLE
UIndy has seen success so far this season, proving to have one of the better frontcourts in the region. Senior forward
Emma Benoit has notched two double-doubles this year including against Davenport when she set a career-high with 20 rebounds in the win against the Panthers. Wright State transfer
Dasia Evans recorded her first double-double with the Hounds in the team's previous game against Purdue Northwest with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes of action.
