Furlong Nabs Pair of All-Region Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy student-athlete Katie Furlong was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region teams on Wednesday, marking the second straight year the junior outside hitter has each award.

Furlong remains the lone Greyhound to earn All-Region honors since Meghan Binkerd and Hailey Brown in 2014.

The Galena, Ill., native did not slow down from her standout sophomore campaign, once again leading the 21-win Greyhounds with 3.86 kills/set on .262 hitting. The junior also chipped in 29 total blocks at the net, including seven solo stops, while recording 64 digs.

Furlong recorded double-figure kills in all but four matches this season, including 26 against Cedarville on opening weekend. The 6-0 outside recorded four 20-kill matches in total in 2019, including 23 in the GLVC Championship Tournament quarterfinal win over Drury on Nov. 22.

The outside hitter currently ranks 14th in the UIndy record book with 1,018 career kills, while she has also claimed second place for most putaways as a junior with 436.

Ferris State's Allyson Cappel was named the region's player of the year by both organizations, while Bellarmine's Jayme Scott (freshman) and Hillsdale's Chris Gravel (coach) were also recognized by the AVCA.

Furlong and the Greyhounds begin NCAA Midwest Regional action tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against No. 10 Hillsdale.
