INDIANAPOLIS- The #6 UIndy womens' tennis team debuted at the top of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Ranking, with the first edition of the poll being released Wednesday.
The Greyhounds (18-0) are followed by the 2018 Midwest Regional champ Drury, Wayne State Grand Valley State, Northwood, Hillsdale, Walsh and Maryville in the top eight in the initial ranking. UIndy has claimed Midwest Region titles in 2017, 2016 and 2015.
The top eight teams in each region make the NCAA Tournament, with the top two in each region earning the right to host a regional event.
UIndy moved from #4 to #6 in the ITA Division II team rankings, also released Wednesday. Greyhound freshman
Nikol Alexeeva jumped from #13 to #9 in the singles rankings, with
Hanna Volikova coming in at #17. The duo of Alexeeva and
Anya Novikova come in at #5 nationally.Â
The Greyhounds head into postseason play this weekend, hosting the 2019 GLVC Mens' and Women's Tennis Championships. UIndy, champions of the GLVC in 2017 and 2015, opens tournament play as the top seed from the East Division and will face off with Rockhurst, the four-seed from the West, at 9 a.m. Friday. The tournament is currently set to be played outdoors at Center Grove High School, but with the impending weather check UIndyAthletics.com for updates as to the match location.  Â
