INDIANAPOLIS- Greyhound women's tennis freshman
Nikol Alexeeva has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the week, announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
Alexeeva, currently ranked #18 in the ITA singles rankings, helped the #3 Greyhounds to a 7-0 sweep of Bellarmine over the weekend, to push UIndy's unblemished record to 15-0, 2-0 in GLVC play. The freshman has yet to allow a GLVC opponent to take a set off of her on the singles court, winning 6-0, 6-0 versus the Knights at one singles. This was a repeat of her performance in UIndy's win versus McKendree to open league play March 23. She is a perfect 13-0 in singles play on the season.
In doubles, Alexeeva along with Anna Novikova are ranked #10 nationally. The duo won 6-4 versus Bellarmine Saturday at one doubles, and are 9-2 on the season thus far, 2-0 in GLVC matches. This is Alexeeva's first career GLVC Player of the Week honor, and the second straight for UIndy women's tennis as Novikova was the league's honoree a week ago.
A pair of league opponents await the Greyhounds this weekend, as they will travel to Illinois Springfield for a Saturday match and Lewis for a Sunday face off with the Flyers.Â
