ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.- The Greyhound women's tennis team will take its sparkling 22-0 record into action at the NCAA Division II Tennis Championships beginning Wednesday at Sanlando Park.
UIndy enters the event as the two-seed, with Barry as the one seed. Just one other team enters the event without a loss, in three-seed Lynn (24-0). The Greyhounds open the tournament against 15-seed, Goldey-Beacom. The Lightning are having a historic season of their own, advancing to the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time in not just program history, but in any program in their athletic department's history.
The Greyhounds, currently ranked #6 in the ITA NCAA Division II Women's Tennis poll, are riding a streak of 10-straight shutouts. UIndy last surrendered a team point more than two months ago, in a 4-2 defeat of Midwestern State March 15. The Greyhounds have defeated four teams in the bracket en route to the 22-0 record they bring into this weekend, in 5-seed Hawaii Pacific (4-1), 7-seed Midwestern State (4-2), 10-seed Northwest Missouri State (7-0) and 12-seed St. Edward's (4-0).Â
UIndy's berth in this year's NCAA Championship event is the fourth in program history. The Greyhounds, who make a return to the Round of 16 after falling in Regional Championship play last year, have never advanced past the Sweet 16 in their three previous attempts.Â
UIndy versus Goldey-Beacom is slated for a 12 p.m. start from Sanlando Park. The complete breakdown of Wednesday's matches, and how the rest of the week will unfold, is below.
