AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Men's and Women's At-Large teams Thursday, with four Greyhounds appearing on the prestigious list.
Payton Staman (men's swimming & diving) earned first-team laurels,
Katharina Keilich (women's golf) and
Nils Hoffacker (men's tennis) garnered second-team distinction while
Brody Conner (wrestling) picked up a third-team nod.
Payton Staman became a first-time Academic All-American by orchestrating one of the greatest seasons ever by a UIndy diver. After winning conference gold on both board heights and being named the GLVC Diver of the Year, the junior earned a runner-up finish on the 1-meter board at the 2019 NCAA DII Championships, followed by a third-place finish on the 3-meter. The career five-time All-American sports a 3.91 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. Staman, a native Roscoe, Ill., owns three of the four men's diving school records, including highest six-dive score on the 1-meter, highest 11-dive score on the 1-meter and highest six-dive score on the 3-meter.
Katharina Keilich recently wrapped up one of the all-time best careers in UIndy golf history. A four-time all-conference and all-region honoree, Keilich compiled the second-lowest career scoring average in program history (74.8). Her biggest highlight as a Hound came in 2018 when she won the individual national championship while leading the Hounds to the team title. An Academic All-America® First Team honoree a year ago and a third-team member as a sophomore, Keilich becomes just the fifth-ever Greyhound with three Academic All-America® nods to her credit. The Wetzlar, Germany native graduated in May with a 3.98 GPA in Sport Management.
All-GLVC First Team performer
Nils Hoffacker led the Greyhounds to their first-ever national semifinal appearance this past May. He compiled a 44-3 combined record on the season, including a perfect 21-0 mark in singles play. Hoffacker was ranked as high as No. 29 in the ITA DII singles ranks and never dropped below No. 35. A product of Lauffen, Germany, Hoffacker is now a two-time Academic All-America® honoree after earning first-team accolades a season ago. He currently owns a 4.0 GPA in the UIndy MBA program.
Brody Conner became a two-time national qualifier after placing second at the 2019 NCAA DII Super Regional at 184 pounds. Twice a finalist for the NCAA Elite 90 Award, he garnered All-GLVC Honorable Mention this season after earning second-team accolades in 2018. The Paw Paw, Mich., product has racked up 65 career wins thus far, and will be working towards his MBA during his final year on the mat for the Greyhounds, after earning his bachelor's degree this May with a 3.94 GPA in Finance. This marks his first Academic All-America® award.
The at-large program for the Google Cloud Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
Thursday's quartet of honorees joins softball's
Halie Waters and men's soccer's
Josh Mahon to bring UIndy's 2018-19 Academic All-America® total to six. Track & field award winners, the year's final set of Academic All-Americans, will be released June 26.
