EVANSVILLE, IN – The Greyhound cross country teams traveled down to Evansville for the first meet of the season on Friday. Indianapolis placed second for both the men and the women in a field of four teams at the Stegemoller Classic. The men finished the six-kilometer race with 64 points total, while the women ended their four-kilometer race with 42 points overall.
The women entered seven different Greyhounds in the four-kilometer race, finishing three student-athletes in the top 10. All seven entries were either sophomores or freshmen, and the younger Hounds paved the way for the rest of the team.
Lex Brookshire finished third overall in the field, kicking off her collegiate career at a time of 14:36.2.
Madelyn Miller also started her collegiate career, ending the race at fifth overall on a time of 14:57.9. The other two Greyhounds to finish in the top 10 were
Savannah Huben (8th- 15:07.7) and
Melissa Spencer (10th- 15:12.8).
The men were impressive as well, placing all seven entries within the top 25. Junior captain
Will Reid ended the six-kilometer race as the top Greyhound, posting a ninth place finish with his 19:42.9 time.
Andrew Bixler caught the eyes of many as one of the leading freshmen in the race, crossing the line in 19:45.3 for 11th overall. Junior
Danny Rockley (13th- 19:51.9) and senior
Kyle Gross (15th- 19:58.6) rounded out the race's top-15 finishers in the event.

The Greyhounds will spend the next several days preparing for another Indiana race, this time in Upland. The John Bullock Invitational, hosted by Taylor University, will commence on Friday the 20th at 5 p.m.
