ON TAP
The UIndy women's basketball team s back home after spending the last two weeks on the road. The Greyhounds will host Quincy Thursday night before a highly anticipated matchup against Truman as part of the annual Pack the House game Saturday afternoon.
Â
HOUNDS vs. HAWKS
UIndy and Quincy met twice last year with each team winning on the other's home floor. The game in Indianapolis came down to overtime after the Hawks erased a 12 point second half lead before outscoring UIndy 12-4 in the overtime period to earn a 67-59 win. The Hounds visited the Hawks in early March to hold Quincy to 33 percent shooting to win their season finale 60-47. UIndy owns the all-time series record 26-23 over the Hawks.
Â
ABOUT QUINCY
The Hawks hit the road after playing their last four games at home, picking up one win during that stretch. Their lone win came against Rockhurst nearly two weeks ago, beating the Hawks before UIndy also beat them their next game out. Quincy has just three conference wins so far this season with those wins coming against William Jewell before losing to the Cardinals later, Illinois Springfield, and Rockhurst.
Â
The Hawks have three players who average double figures in scoring with senior forward Alexa Low leading the way with just over 11 points a game and hauling in nearly seven boards as well. Much like UIndy, Quincy is a very sound defensive team, holding their opponents to 39 percent shooting from the field including just 31 percent from deep, both rank third in the GLVC.
Â
HOUNDS vs. BULLDOGS
Another team UIndy saw twice a season ago, Truman can look at their game against the Greyhounds in late February last year as motivation. After beating the Greyhounds handily in Nicoson Hall back in January, the Hounds went into Kirksville with the GLVC and NCAA tournaments approaching to upset the Bulldogs who were ranked sixth in the region, 75-70 on overtime. The Greyhounds own an 8-6 advantage over Truman all-time.
Â
ABOUT TRUMAN
The Bulldogs have only dropped two games this calendar year, one of those losses came just last week at home to GLVC player of the week Kallie Bildner and Lindenwood. Sitting at fourth in the GLVC PRS used to determine seeding for the conference tournament, the Bulldogs boast a top-three offense in the GLVC, averaging 76 points a contest while only giving up about 68. Most of their offense comes from inside as they shoot 46 percent from the field while only converting on about 33 percent of their three-point attempts.
Â
Truman has three players all over 12 points per game this season with all over them shooting nearly 45 percent or better. Senior guard Sloane Totta leads Truman with over 14 points per game but her backcourt running mate in freshman Hannah Belanger is second in the GLVC in three-point percentage, nailing 48 triples this season shooting at a 44 percent clip.
Â
TALE OF TWO NIGHTS
UIndy's two opponents this week could not be more different when it comes to playing on the road. Thursday opponent, Quincy, has just one win on the road this season while Saturday opponent, Truman, has only lost on the road this season once.
Â
SEEING DOUBLE
UIndy has seen success so far this season, proving to have one of the better frontcourts in the region. The front court of
Emma Benoit,
Dasia Evans, and
McKenzy Telfair have combined for four double-doubles so far this season. Benoit was the first one of the year when she went for 16 points and 20 rebounds against Davenport and she is also the most recent one going for 22 and 12 last weekend against William Jewell.
Â
PLAYING BOTH ENDS
The Greyhounds efficient offense has them as one of the best teams in the GLVC in terms of field goal percentage this season, shooting at a 44.5 percent clip. UIndy also gets in done on the defensive end, holding their opponents to 36.4 percent shooting, tops in the GLVC. The Hounds are the only GLVC team to rank in the top five in both categories.
Â
LOCKDOWN D
UIndy has been consistently holding their opponents in tact this season including in the three games they have lost. The Hounds the only GLVC team to hold each of their opponents under 50 percent shooting every game this season.
Â
TONIGHT WE BOUNCE BACK
At a 16-6 mark this year, the Greyhounds are beating their opponents by an average of nearly five points per game. But it is how they Greyhounds play after losing their game prior that has been crucial for them all year. UIndy s 5-0 after coming off a loss their last time out, winning their next game by nine points on average.
Â
SHEARING THROUGH DEFENSES
Since being thrusted into the starting lineup at the beginning of the New Year, junior
Shira Sasson has found her stride lately for the Greyhounds. After struggling early on, the older of the Sasson twins has been a huge boost for the UIndy offense as she has averaged almost 10 points a game in road GLVC wins in the last month.
Â
BATTLE OF THE BOARDS
Truman ranks as the best rebounding team in the GLVC this season as they own a +7.8 rebounding differential over their opponents this season. They will be the Greyhounds toughest test on the season when battling for rebounds as the two teams are ranked towards in the top in the GLVC in three separate rebounding categories.
Â
PACK THE HOUSE
It is the annual Pack the House event at Nicoson Hall this weekend when UIndy hosts Truman Saturday afternoon. Last year's Pack the House night was full of excitement for the women in their game with Bellarmine before the Knights mounted a fourth quarter comeback to beat the Greyhounds in front of a crowd of nearly 1,000 people.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Hounds saw their four-game winning streak come to a halt when they faced William Jewell Saturday afternoon in Missouri. The UIndy offense struggled to get moving after being outscored 22-6 in the second period as the Cardinals held on to the 72-56 win.
