CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – After collecting a plethora of podium finishes, the UIndy swimming & diving teams provided an even better third day of the 2020 GLVC Swimming & Diving Championships. Crowning multiple GLVC individual champions and setting a new GLVC record were all part of Friday's competition. The men have taken over the lead with one day to go, 74.5 points ahead of No. 5 McKendree with 1141 points total. The women are holding strong at second place in the conference with 1224 points, eight ahead of GLVC-newcomer Lindenwood.

As if diving couldn't top Thursday events, both the men and women exceeded expectations on Friday.
Cassie Kury and
Payton Staman repeated as GLVC Divers of the Year after both won all four diving events over the combination of Thursday and Friday. Kury has now won the league's top diver award each of the last three years, while Staman collected his second honor in a row for the men.
Kury shattered both the GLVC and UIndy record on the women's 1-meter board, scoring a total of 485 points in the event. Freshman
Mikaela Starr finished as the runner-up, gathering 406.85 points to edge her third-place foe by 4.5 points. The men not only swept the medals on the 3-meter but grabbed each of the top five spots. Staman won the event with a score of 524.35, while freshman
Cade Hammond eclipsed the 500 mark with a silver-medal effort of 500.10 points.
Josh Zylstra was awarded bronze with his 491.40 point total, followed by
Jason Lenzo (487.50) in fourth and Ben Rader (475.85) in fifth. The UIndy men's divers single-handedly gained 138 points for the Hounds on Friday alone.
Marizel van Jaarsveld took part in GLVC history on Friday in the women's 200 fly, taking the crown and replacing her own UIndy record in the event. Van Jaarsveld's 1:59.62 final time gave UIndy their first swimming gold medal of the weekend.
Darian Murray finished second place in the event for the silver medal, touching the wall on a final time of 2:01.12. The women's team claimed the final medal of the night in the women's 800 free relay, placing second overall in the event.
Sasha Shatskikh, Skoric, van Jaarsveld and
Krystal Caylor surged past third-place Lindenwood in the end of the race to touched at a 7:26.71 final time.
"I wouldn't have won today if it wasn't for the teams' support," stated van Jaarsveld. "The team spirit is so strong, and everyone being here for everyone makes you give more than 100% of your effort."
UIndy's freshmen continued to impress as
Christian Hedeen achieved a top-five finish in the men's 500 free. Hedeen placed fifth overall on his 4:30.09 time in the event.
Edda Skoric kicked off the swimming individual medals for the Greyhounds, finishing third overall after dropping her prelim time down to 55.41 in the A final of the women's 100 back.
Jake Braumbaugh made a finals appearance of his own, the senior finishing sixth overall in the men's 100 back. Braumbaugh dropped under 50 seconds in the event, dropping down to a 49.38 final time.
Mariia Rezhylo put the Greyhounds back on the podium in the women's 100 breast, edging the fourth-place finisher by a tenth of a second. Rezhylo's 1:02.02 time earned her a bronze medal in the event.
Jan Zuchowicz provided a thrilling race in the men's 100 breast, but just missed a medal on a fourth-place touch at the wall. His final time of 54.29 was .28 seconds ahead of fifth place.

The Greyhounds will compete in the final day of the GLVC Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday with defending a conference title on the line. The events will stay between the lanes with the mile, 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast and 400 free relays. Prelims are scheduled to start at 10 a.m., while finals kick off the mile races at 3 p.m.

Diving highlighted day two with four medals between the two events, including a Staman GLVC-record-breaking performance on one meter. The senior also took down the UIndy record with his 579.95 points on his way to a gold medal. Kury joined Staman's company by winning a gold medal of her own in the women's three meter, scoring 474.20 points.
Both the men and the women finished the 200 free relay with a silver medal in their respected events.
Johanna Buys, Rezhylo, Caylor and Vaselli swam a 1:32.46 time for the women, while Silva, Crompton-English, Mas and Antonon powered into a time of 1:19.91 for the men.
Van Jaarsveld finished near the top in the women's 400 IM, placing second overall on her final time of 4:22.13 in the event. Murray and Yorke won two more medals for the Greyhounds in the respected events, with Murray finishing third on a 55.20 time in the women's 100 fly and Yorke touching an a UIndy-record 47.17 time for the silver medal in the men's 100 fly. Caylor surged into the second-place spot in the women's 200 free, claiming yet another silver medal for UIndy in the women's 200 free. Caylor's final time in the event was 1:50.40.
Both teams were able to secure a silver medal in the final event of the day, the 400 medley relay. The women were led by Skoric, Rezhylo, Murray and Vaselli for a 3:43.01 final time, and the men took Lucev, Zuchowicz, Yorke and Antonon to a dominating 3:14.91 time.

The Greyhounds found three gold medals in the first day of action at the GLVC Swimming & Diving Championships, helping place them within the top two teams on both sides.
Van Jaarsveld (right) took home a third-place finish in the women's 200 IM, dropping a 2:01.15 time in the event. Vaselli made her way up to a silver medal in one of her best events: the women's 50 free. Vaselli touched the wall on a time of 23.13. The 200 medley relay continued to be a strong point for the women's team as well, coming into a second-place finish at a final time of 1:41.99. That team consisted of Skoric, Rezhylo, Murray and Vaselli.
The men had some impressive swims but were just short of claiming a podium finish on the day.
Cody Liske whipped up a 9:15.97 time in the men's 1000 free, right at his best time in the event for sixth place. Largen also had a strong day one for UIndy, touching his 200 IM race at fifth with his 1:50.66 time.
