CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – For the third consecutive year, the UIndy men's swimming & diving team won the GLVC Swimming & Diving conference title Saturday. The Greyhounds finished the weekend with 1452 total points, edging runner-up McKendree, which compiled 1414.5 points.The women had one of their best GLVC performances to date, finishing second to third-ranked Drury with a grand total of 1653 team points.
"It was an incredibly close fight, and McKendree challenged us until the end," commented senior
Ante Lucev, "Our best student-athletes didn't taper, and still being able to win the GLVC title means that we're coming for March (NCAA Championships)."
The women continued providing championship performances, earning gold medals in three different events on Saturday. The Greyhounds rewrote the history books, tearing down the GLVC meet record in the women's 400 free relay. The squad of
Marizel van Jaarsveld,
Krystal Caylor,
Johanna Buys and
Leticia Vaselli dominated with their final time of 3:21.62, also breaking the UIndy record in the event.
Vaselli also claimed gold in the women's 100 free, slamming down a 50.94 final time as the only student-athlete in the field under 51 seconds. Caylor came second in the same event, swimming a 51.16 final time.
Edda Skoric continued to win in the women's 200 back, maintaining her streak of not losing a single 200 back race yet this season. Skoric's championship time was 1:56.55 in the event.
Andras Tiszai was the men's top finisher on Saturday, earning a silver medal in the men's 200 back. The mid-year addition's time of 1:46.54 placed him second overall in UIndy history. Van Jaarsveld provided an award-winning performance of her own, throwing down a 1:59.92 final time in the women's 200 back for a bronze medal.
The Greyhounds featured a couple other student-athletes within the top eight during Saturday's finals session, including a fourth-place finish in the men's 400 free relay. The relay consisted of

Joao Silva and
Ante Lucev, who finished on a final time of 2:59.47.
Melanie Arnold posted a solid finish in the women's mile, garnering a seventh-place finish on a final time of 17:06.14.
TJ LeSeure also gained a seventh-place finish in the men's 200 breast, ending his weekend on a final time of 2:02.01.

UP NEXT
The UIndy will now look to prepare for the NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships, scheduled from Mar 11-14 in Geneva, Ohio. Before then, some student-athletes may attend the IU First Chance Meet, taking place on Feb. 22 and 23.

The Greyhounds finished day three with the men holding the lead at the GLVC Swimming & Diving Championships and the women maintaining a second-place spot in the rankings.
Cassie Kury and
Payton Staman repeated as GLVC Divers of the Year after both won all four diving events over the combination of Thursday and Friday. Kury has now won the league's top diver award each of the last three years, while Staman collected his second honor in a row for the men. Kury scored a total of 485 points in the women's 1-meter. The men not only swept the medals on the 3-meter but grabbed each of the top five spots. Staman won the event with a score of 524.35 points for the gold medal.
Marizel van Jaarsveld UIndy history on Friday in the women's 200 fly, winning the event on a time of 1:59.62 The women's team claimed the final medal of the night in the women's 800 free relay, placing second overall in the event.
Sasha Shatskikh, Skoric, van Jaarsveld and
Krystal Caylor surged past third-place Lindenwood in the end of the race to touched at a 7:26.71 final time.
"I wouldn't have won today if it wasn't for the teams' support," stated van Jaarsveld. "The team spirit is so strong, and everyone being here for everyone makes you give more than 100% of your effort."
Edda Skoric kicked off the swimming individual medals for the Greyhounds, finishing third overall after dropping her prelim time down to 55.41 in the A final of the women's 100 back.
Mariia Rezhylo put the Greyhounds on the podium in the women's 100 breast, edging the fourth-place finisher by a tenth of a second. Rezhylo's 1:02.02 time earned her a bronze medal in the event.
Jan Zuchowicz provided a thrilling race in the men's 100 breast, but just missed a medal on a fourth-place touch at the wall. His final time of 54.29 was .28 seconds ahead of fifth place.

Diving highlighted day two with four medals between the two events, including a Staman GLVC-record-breaking performance on one meter. The senior also took down the UIndy record with his 579.95 points on his way to a gold medal. Kury joined Staman's company by winning a gold medal of her own in the women's three meter, scoring 474.20 points.
Both the men and the women finished the 200 free relay with a silver medal in their respected events.
Johanna Buys, Rezhylo, Caylor and Vaselli swam a 1:32.46 time for the women, while Silva, Crompton-English, Mas and Antonon powered into a time of 1:19.91 for the men.
Van Jaarsveld finished near the top in the women's 400 IM, placing second overall on her final time of 4:22.13 in the event. Murray and Yorke won two more medals for the Greyhounds in the respected events, with Murray finishing third on a 55.20 time in the women's 100 fly and Yorke touching an a UIndy-record 47.17 time for the silver medal in the men's 100 fly. Caylor surged into the second-place spot in the women's 200 free, claiming yet another silver medal for UIndy in the women's 200 free. Caylor's final time in the event was 1:50.40.
Both teams were able to secure a silver medal in the final event of the day, the 400 medley relay. The women were led by Skoric, Rezhylo, Murray and Vaselli for a 3:43.01 final time, and the men took Lucev, Zuchowicz, Yorke and Antonon to a dominating 3:14.91 time.

The Greyhounds found three gold medals in the first day of action at the GLVC Swimming & Diving Championships, helping place them within the top two teams on both sides.
Van Jaarsveld (right) took home a third-place finish in the women's 200 IM, dropping a 2:01.15 time in the event. Vaselli made her way up to a silver medal in one of her best events: the women's 50 free. Vaselli touched the wall on a time of 23.13. The 200 medley relay continued to be a strong point for the women's team as well, coming into a second-place finish at a final time of 1:41.99. That team consisted of Skoric, Rezhylo, Murray and Vaselli.
The men had some impressive swims but were just short of claiming a podium finish on the day.
Cody Liske whipped up a 9:15.97 time in the men's 1000 free, right at his best time in the event for sixth place. Largen also had a strong day one for UIndy, touching his 200 IM race at fifth with his 1:50.66 time.
