ON TAP
The UIndy women's basketball team is back at home for the last time this season Thursday night before going on the road to face Southern Indiana in Evansville on Saturday afternoon.
Â
HOUNDS vs. BEARCATS
UIndy and McKendree have already met once this season with their meeting coming in Lebanon back on January 11. The Bearcats shot better from the field and won the battle of the boards in their meeting, but the Greyhounds used a big fourth quarter to come away with the road win. UIndy owns the all-time series against McKendree, 7-3.
Â
ABOUT McKENDREE
The Bearcats snapped a four-game skid last Saturday at home beating Illinois Springfield, 83-76. Both UIS and McKendree shot 50 percent from the field in the game with the difference coming from the free throw line where McKendree shot 28 free throws to the Prairie Stars' 18.
Â
McKendree has nine players that average 10 or more minutes this season, giving them depth off the bench to help them late in games. Guard Jordan Heberg leads the Bearcats in scoring, averaging 14 points per game while guards Madison Hart and Jenna Krause both average 10 points a night as well. Hart flirts with a double-double on average, grabbing over nine rebounds a game, fourth in the GLVC.
Â
HOUNDS vs. SCREAMING EAGLES
Another team UIndy has already faced this season, USI came into Nicoson Hall on January 9. The Greyhounds shot better from the field as a whole than the Screaming Eagles did, but USI made more triples and free throws than the Hounds did to give them the advantage that night.
Â
ABOUT MISSOURI S&T
USI just saw their six-game winning streak snapped last Saturday on their home floor when Lewis came into Screaming Eagle Arena and dealt the hosts a 74-58 loss. Southern Indiana is right behind the Greyhounds in both field goal percent defense as well as scoring defense in the GLVC, making Saturday's matchup a defensive battle on both ends.
Â
The Screaming Eagles have sent out the same starting five every game this season, led by senior Ashley Johnson. The 5-6 guard currently scores 14 points a game while Indianapolis-native Emma DeHart is right behind her backcourt mate at 11 points a night. The rebounding battle will be crucial for the Greyhounds to come out of Evansville with a win Saturday at USI is nearly -5 in rebounding differential per game this season.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
It was a rough start to last Saturday's game for the Greyhounds as they trailed by as many as 22 points on the road at Missouri S&T.
Laura Thomas had a career day against the Miners, making as many field goals in her last nine attempts as S&T did the entire second half. Thomas was three points shy of breaking the program record for points in a game as she finished with 37.
Marissa Knobloch had a career-best 15 points with all of those points coming from beyond the arc. Senior
Mickey Sasson flirted with a triple-double in the second half before finishing the game with six points, nine boards, and nine dimes.
Â
SEEING DOUBLE
UIndy has seen success so far this season, proving to have one of the better frontcourts in the region. The front court of
Emma Benoit,
Dasia Evans, and
McKenzy Telfair have combined for four double-doubles so far this season. Benoit was the first one of the year when she went for 16 points and 20 rebounds against Davenport and she is also the most recent one going for 22 and 12 against William Jewell earlier this month.
Â
PLAYING BOTH ENDS
The Greyhounds efficient offense has them as one of the best teams in the GLVC in terms of field goal percentage this season, shooting at a 43.7 percent clip. UIndy also gets in done on the defensive end, holding their opponents to 37.1 percent shooting, tops in the GLVC by nearly .2%
Â
LOCKDOWN D
UIndy has been consistently holding their opponents in check on the offensive end this season. The Hounds the only GLVC team to hold each of their opponents under 50 percent shooting every game this season.
Â
LATE SEASON DEPTH
Two Greyhounds have seen extended playing time in the last couple of weeks. Sophomore
Mya Scheidt played a career-high 19 minutes in the win over Quincy two weeks ago, filling up the stat sheet with three points, four boards, and four dimes. Junior
Taylor Drury chipped in a season-best 10 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting in that game as well.
Â
SNIPER ALERT
In her last game against USI, freshman
Marissa Knobloch hit a then career-high three triples against the Screaming Eagles all in the first half. The freshman from Marengo, Ill., hit a career-best five from deep last Saturday against Missouri S&T as she finished with 15 points off the bench.
Â
OWNING THE BOARDS
The Greyhounds dominated the glass against Quincy a few weeks ago, out-rebounding the Hawks by 19. It was the second game this season that UIndy has amassed 50 rebounds in a game, they had a season-high 62 rebounds back in November against Davenport. The 50 rebounds in a GLVC game is the most in almost seven years when they recorded 51 rebounds in a win against St. Joe's in 2013.
Â
PLAY FOR KAY
The Greyhounds will have their annual pink game Thursday night against McKendree. The players will be wearing pink shoe laces and Kay Yow shirts during pregame and on the bench. The team will also be making a donation based on free throws to the
Kay Yow Foundation after the game.
Â
REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
After their win last Saturday, the Greyhounds hit the 18-win mark on the season. The 18 wins this year is the most since Coach Wodrich took over the program in 2016-17 when they went 17-14.
Â
REGIONAL TIME
Last week marked the initial regional rankings from the Regional Advisory Committee. The Hounds found themselves outside of the top-10 rankings with their in-region RPI ranking No. 12 in the Midwest.
