INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis men's soccer team will be riding into the 2021 NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed in the Super Region 3, announced this evening by NCAA officials. This earns the Hounds a tournament berth for a second straight time (2020-21 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic).
The Greyhounds (15-1-2) earned an automatic bid into the tournament after winning the GLVC Tournament crown on Sunday. UIndy is one of six teams from the SR3 that earn a "bye" past the first round. With that, the Hounds are set to play the winner of No. 8-seed Cedarville and No. 9-seed Ohio Dominican, who are scheduled to meet at 1 p.m. ET at Key Stadium this Thursday, Nov. 18. The winner of that match will battle the Greyhounds in the second round on Saturday at Key Stadium beginning at noon.
Notably, UIndy is one of four teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference that will make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament this year. Illinois Springfield (No. 4), Maryville (No. 5), and Lewis (No. 7) all advance to the tournament from the SR3 and will have a chance at a national championship.
The rest of the SR3 field will consist of No. 2 Lake Erie (G-MAC champion), No. 3 Wisconsin-Parkside (GLIAC champion), No. 6 Fort Hays State (GAC/MIAA champion), and No. 10 Davenport.
