INDIANAPOLIS – After two consecutive meets away from home, the Greyhound track & field team returned to the comforts of the Athletics and Recreation Center (ARC) for the UIndy Classic this weekend. The Hounds recorded a handful of NCAA provisional marks, including a pair from thrower
Katrinia Hopkins.
Â
A senior from nearby Avon, Ind., Hopkins improved her provo in the weight throw with a toss of 17.77 meters. She also reached the 14-meter plateau in the shot put for the second time this season with an even 14.00-meter toss.
Â
Fellow-thrower
Zoe Pentecost did Hopkins one better in the weight, pulling off a season-best mark of 18.14 meters to win the event and up her own provo mark. Both women rank in the top 20 in Division II in the event.
Â
A number of other women's field athletes joined in the fun. The pole-vaulting pair of
Brittney Clark and
Lauren Joseph both cleared the provisional-topping height of 3.83 meters, with Joseph's vault representing a personal best. Meanwhile, senior
Taylor Strnad matched her season-best mark in the high jump with a provo of 1.65 meters.
Â
On the men's side,
Jacob Stamm bolstered an already successful season with a provisional time in the 3,000 meters. One week after contributing to the Greyhounds'
record-breaking DMR performance, the Richmond, Ind., product won the 3K with a converted time of 8:20.03 to put him in the mix for Nationals.
Â
Senior
Andrew DeRidder won the 60 meters with a PR of 6.99 as only the fifth GLVC sprinter this year to post a sub-seven-second time.
Alexander Brown-Baez won both the 200- and 400-meter races, and
Chandler Martin took first in the high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters.
