INDIANAPOLIS - The GLVC released the 2021 men's soccer preseason poll Wednesday afternoon with the Greyhounds named the top team in the conference. After collecting a program-record 16 wins in the 2019 season, head coach
John Higgins led the Hounds their first-ever national semifinal appearance last season.
The annual GLVC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll was voted on by the league's 15 head coaches. Per league policy, coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.
The Greyhounds attracted 10 first-place votes as part of its 189 points overall. The team boasts several key returning players from its NCAA semifinal run, including All-NCAA Tournament honoree
Vincent Stone for his senior season. Stone won't be the only returning star midfielder on the roster, as All-Tournament
Jakub Olczykalso will kick off his senior campaign this week as well.
UIndy welcomes back some of their top offensive weapons from the 2019 season as well, including junior
Alejandro Steinwascher and sophomore
Bryan Moreira. Steinwascher sits as the Greyhounds' top returning scoring threat, netting seven goals while assisting on eight more last season.
Dimitrios Karousos stands as the Hounds' incumbent goalkeeper, as the Athens, Greece native collected 11 wins in 15 starts in 2019, leading to 51 saves and a save percentage of almost 79 percent.
The Maryville Saints collected four of the 15 first-place votes, picked as second in the GLVC Preseason Poll. The GLVC Championship runner-up, McKendree, was the only other team with first-place votes, garnering one overall.
UIndy will open up their season on Friday in Indianapolis, kicking off the season in conference play against McKendree. That contest at Key Stadium will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
