INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis baseball team dropped their first two matches of the weekend against Northwood University at Bishop Chatard High School on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The Hounds fell the first game, 8-2, and then 5-2 in the second match-up.
"We've got to just be better," said head coach, Al Ready "There's no excuse."
NORTHWOOD 8, UINDY 2
The Timberwolves outhit the Hounds, 10 to four, and deficit difficult to overcome.
Will Smithey had the Hounds pair of RBIs.
"We need to get healthy," Ready said. The Hounds were missing both
Trey Smith and
Isaac Bair due to injury. "We're banged up right now."
Corey Bates (0-2) took the loss for the Hounds, striking out four in five innings pitched.
Drew Schultz (1-0) took the win for Northwood, striking out five and walking three in his seven innings.
"We have to have more competitive at bats… we can't throw away at bats."
NORTHWOOD 5, UINDY 2
A third-inning 2 RBI Timberwolves homerun by Khale Showers put Northwood up 4-0.
TY Williams had two on the Greyhounds five hits during the second game, Williams and Smithey also earned the Hounds pair of RBIs
Northwood posted 12 hits in the matchup. Logan Lee took the win for the Timberwolves (1-0), while
Reid Werner (1-1) took the loss for the Hounds.
"They (pitching staff) can't continue to keep playing from behind," Ready added. "We have to be tougher."
