INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis was selected atop the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, the league office announced on Tuesday. The preseason poll is voted on by the conference's 15 head coaches. Per league policy, coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.

UIndy tallied 190 total points and earned four first-place votes. The Greyhounds, ranked No. 21 in the preseason National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, began the 2020 campaign with a 14-5 record before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ranked No. 17 in the NFCA preseason rankings, the University of Southern Indiana totaled 170 points and two first-place votes to come in at second, and the the University of Missouri-St. Louis garnered picked up 162 points and a league-high five first-place nods to take third. Three other squads garnered at least one first-place vote.

The 2021 GLVC Softball Championship Tournament is scheduled for May 6-9 in East Peoria, Ill., for the 18th straight year. The 2020 Championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which would have marked the 17th consecutive season.
