INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy Baseball team continued to prove their GLVC competitiveness with the split with Maryville today at Greyhound Park.
The Greyhounds are now 9 -3 in the GLVC and have won 9 GLVC matchups and 8 of the last 10 games.
GAME ONE
First baseman
John Carpinelli hit his first homerun of the season with a hard hit ball out of right field. The junior earned two RBI off of three at bats.
Carpinelli was matched by
Isaac Bair in leading the Hounds with a pair of RBI, Bair also earned himself nine putouts.
An RBI double up the left baseline by
Trey Smith scored
Alex Vela, who just had slammed his first triple of the 2021 campaign, to put the Hounds up 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth. UIndy finished the fifth inning up 6-4 and ended the game ahead.
Matt Rearick (1-1) took the win for the Greyhounds striking out three in 1.1 innings.
Noah Arras (0-1) took the loss for Maryville, hitting two batters and walking two in 1.2 inning pitched.
GAME TWO
A big first inning by both teams started game three of the series the highest scoring matchup thus far in the series, with the Saints coming out with six runs and the Hounds answering back with four. The 6 - 8 loss was full of close plays and an abundance of energy.
Alex Vela continued to show capabilities both as a fielder and as a batter in game two of the day. Vela made a third out play from his stomach in the second inning that stunned both the fans at Greyhound Park and the two teams. Vela ended the day with 2 hits in 3 at bats.
Carpinelli continued to lead the Hounds on the day with two RBI in game two.
Corey Bates (1-4) pitched a full game for the Hounds, striking out 10 and walking one in taking the loss with 35 batters faced.
Jamie Young (1-0) took the win for the Saints striking out three in 2.0 innings pitched.
