INDIANAPOLIS—It was a weekend for the record books for UIndy track & field, as the team found success at two different meets in the state of Indiana. The Greyhounds hosted the two-day Tom Hathaway Classic Friday and Saturday, while also strategically sending 800-meter-senation
Berenice Cleyet-Merle to the IU Relays in Bloomington, Ind., Saturday.
Â
The latter move paid off and then some, as Cleyet-Merle dominated an otherwise all-Division-I field chock-full of Big Ten runners. With a time of 2:03:89, she took home first by three seconds and in the process ran the second-fasted 800 ever by a DII student-athlete. She as well brought down the school record she already (2:06.80) by three seconds.
Â
Â
Cleyet-Merle was not the only record setter this weekend for the No. 10-ranked women's team. Rookie
Ellie Lengerich, who has established herself as a candidate for GLVC Freshmen of the Year, added to her quickly-growing resume with a score of 3297 in the women's pentathlon. That mark set a new UIndy record, besting one of the oldest records in the book – 2938 set by Porsche Jackson in 2009.

FRIDAY
Friday afternoon started on the field side with pole vault, long jump and weight throw.
Sabrina Robison  edged
Brittney Clark for the pole vault win, with both clearing 3.90 meters. Clark increased her provisional mark by .05 meters while Robison hit a lifetime PR, .2 meters higher than she had previously jumped in her Hound career. For the men,
Treyton Arnold captured the victory with a vault of 4.33 meters.
Â
Long jump featured
Rebekah Mappes hitting a PR of 5.16 meters, good enough for second place. While
Makala Pfefferkorn hit the five-meter mark for the second week in a row.
Â
For the men's side of weight throw,
Jacob Brouse,
Brock King,
Cameron Smith,
Noah Mattson and
Evan Gaylor all came away with PRs.
Zoe Pentecost won the women's side of the weight throw with a toss of 18.84 meters, four meters further than the field.
Â
The day continued with many of the shorter running events taking place, the first of which being the 60-meter hurdles.
Sam DeWitt wore the crown on the men's side with a time of 8.45, with teammate Deandre Stroud hitting a PR of 8.94.
Lindsey Wormuth notch a PR in the preliminaries with a time of 9.20, positioning her fifth in the conference.
Â
In the mile,
Emma Treibic's 5:28:5 netted her first place in the 14-competitor field.
Trinity Gleitz topped her personal best, crossing the line at 5:48:82.
Aaron Trejo as well hit a PR in the mile, hitting his first sub-4:50 mile time at 4:48:92. In the 400,
Josiah Adams recorded a PR with a first-place time of 50.89.
Â
SATURDAY
Saturday the action kept going in the ARC. After setting the school pentathlon mark the day before, Lengerich continued to show why she is a top talent in high jump with a win once again.
Â
The men's heptathlon concluded on Saturday with
Cole Hurt placing third with a score of 3854 and
Tyler Nolan scoring 3446 for sixth, while the shot put featured PRs out of Brouse,
Claire Tabbit and
MaKenna Maschino. In triple jump, Robison added PR with a 10.85-meter leap.
Â
Trevor Edgerton placed in second and
Hallie Montgomery in fourth as the top finishes for the 200, with Montgomery grabbing a PR on the way.
Â
UP NEXT
A change of scenery is on tap for the Greyhounds next Friday and Saturday as they will separate between the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic in Louisville, Ky., and the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
