INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team opens postseason play this weekend at the 41st annual GLVC Championship Tournament, battling Rockhurst at 9:30 p.m. ET from the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill., on Thursday.
Â
It is the ninth consecutive season the EastSide Centre has served as the host site for the GLVC event.
Â
Earning the No. 6 seed, the Greyhounds wrapped the regular season with a 13-13 overall mark and 6-6 record in league action. UIndy will play third-seeded Rockhurst in the final quarterfinal contest of the tournament, looking to avenge its five-set loss to the Hawks on Oct. 8 inside Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.
Â
"Matches like that can go either way," junior
Lauren Cullison said, referring to that earlier-season contest. "It's even more fire for us."
Â
"I think we match up nicely with them and we finally have a fully healthy roster," said libero
MaKenna Barnhart. "We're going to play loose and have fun; we have nothing to lose going into this weekend."
Â
Hannah Sabotin agreed. "I think coming into this tournament we have something to prove," the junior said. "It's our time to prove what UIndy volleyball is and to finish the season on a high note."
Â
This is the ninth trip to the league postseason for head coach
Jason Reed, with the Greyhounds claiming one GLVC crown during his tenure. UIndy's last GLVC tournament victory came in 2019 as the No. 4 seed, as the team downed Drury in five sets in a GLVC quarterfinal.
Â
"We all need to play with a collective mentality to succeed," said Sabotin. "We all need to leave everything on the court and play for each other every step of the way."
Â
"We are not looked at as the favorite to do anything successful this weekend," continued Barnhart. "But that is our drive. We know we have the capability to win it all. We just have to put it all together."
Â
Cullison added: "We know we're viewed as an underdog and have a lot to prove to everyone. We have to go out there with the confidence that we will win."
