Men’s Soccer Adds Two Student-Athletes to the 2022 Recruiting Class

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis men's soccer head coach John Higgins has announced the signing of two student-athletes so far to the 2022 recruiting class. Dimitris Giannakopoulos and Jona Hogle will join a UIndy squad that has made the NCAA Division II Final Four in back-to-back seasons.

"I'm delighted with how this class is shaping up," Higgins said. "Dimitris and Jona check all the boxes for us from an academic and athletic standpoint and I'm confident both can help us take the program forward."

Giannakopoulos
Giannakopoulos (above) comes to Indianapolis from Larnaca, Cyprus. Standing at 6'1", he was a member of the U17 Cyprus National Team and at this time plans on majoring in Electrical Engineering at UIndy. "Dimitris is a really balanced midfielder who can defend and create opportunities," Higgins said. " He will compete for time in the middle of the park in either the 6 or the 8 for us."

Hogle
Hogle (above) is a native of Commerce Township, MI who attended high school at International Academy. He was a member of the National Honor Society while also competing in the Gothia Cup where he was on the team that was B Bracket champions. As of now his planned major at UIndy is Exercise Science. "Jona will compete for time up top as one of the two strikers," said Higgins. "He will willingly press for us and will cause issues to the opposing defenders with his strength and pace."

"This is the start of a really exciting class for us," said Higgins. "We have a couple more additions coming to the first team that will help maintain our status as one of the top programs in the NCAA Division II."
