INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis placed second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup standings, as announced by the league office Wednesday. The Greyhounds combined for 76 points in the final standings to finish a single point behind winner Drury University.
Points are allocated for the Commissioner's Cup based on the athletic department's finish in the GLVC's postseason tournaments in men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, and baseball. All 15 Conference members sponsor these core sports at the intercollegiate level.
UIndy earned the maximum 15 points by winning the
GLVC title in men's soccer in the fall, while securing second-place points with appearances conference championship game in both men's basketball and softball. The Greyhounds have finished in the top three in the Cup standings six times since 2014, including two wins.
Instituted prior to the 2002-03 season, the Commissioner's Cup has had six different institutions stake claim to the award. Southern Indiana captured its third Cup in 2020-21, leading all active members. UIndy earned possession of the traveling trophy on two occasions, topping the league in both 2013-14 and 2015-16. No other active members can claim more than one Commissioner's Cup.
