INDIANAPOLIS –
Lea Cakarevic jumped into
Kristina Lagoda's arms, she had just clinched the Greyhounds 4-0 win over Wayne State (MI) and punched the team's ticket to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Altamonte Spring on May 17. The Hounds, who are now 19-2 on the season, took the Midwest Region #1 title over the Warriors in a 4-0 sweep on Saturday afternoon at Center Grove High School.
It was Cakarevic who secured the win after posting a 6-2, 6-1 win over Wayne State's Suki Mandair in the No. 6 spot; her teammates
Kristina Lagoda and
Arina Amaning would take the other two single wins over the Warriors No. 4 and No. 5 – with Lagoda finishing first in taking a -6-0, 6-3 win and Amaning also taking a 6-2, 6-1 win.
The Hounds took an early lead over the No. 5 ranked, Wayne State, with a sweep of doubles with
Anna Novikova and Maria Solnsykina taking a 6-0 sweep alongside Sofia Sharnova and
Isabella Dunlap doing the same.
The Greyhounds will return to the NCAA Finals after earning runner-up in the previous season.
