LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Indianapolis volleyball team was honored by the United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association as one of 1,200 collegiate and high school volleyball teams that have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season. The award, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
The Hounds are one of 147 Division II women's teams to earn the honor this year. They posted a 3.55 GPA this year to mark the third straight year and seventh overall that UIndy has been bestowed the honor.
"Every year we have a goal of maintaining a 3.3 or higher within the volleyball program. We take the classroom just as seriously as the court. I'm proud of our continued effort in the classroom each semester," commented head coach Jason Reed.
The 2022 campaign is on the horizon for UIndy. They open the season on Aug. 26-27, hosting the Indianapolis Tournament inside Nicoson Hall and the Ruth Lily Fitness Center.
