LEBANON, Ill. – The 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference Preseason Football Coaches Poll was released Friday, with the UIndy football team voted as the preseason favorite. The announcement was made in conjunction with the annual
GLVC Football Kickoff event, held on the campus of McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill.
Â
The poll featured the league's seven football-playing schools, with UIndy receiving 36 points and the maximum six first-place votes (coaches are not permitted to vote for their own team). The Greyhounds return 14 starters – eight offensive, six defensive – from last year's
7-4 campaign. UIndy finished second to only Lindenwood in last fall's
final GLVC standings. The Lions have since left the league to start their transition to NCAA Division I.
Truman garnered the remaining first-place nod, with its 31 points good for second in the poll. McKendree (22) and Southwest Baptist (20) rounded out the top four.
Overall, the Greyhounds have captured a league-best seven conference titles since the GLVC first began sponsoring football in 2012. The 2022 UIndy
football schedule gets underway Sep. 3 when the Hounds host non-conference Saint Xavier under the lights at Key Stadium.
