TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The University of Indianapolis men's & women's cross country teams opened the 2022 season on Saturday morning at the John McNichols Invitational held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

The men opened the morning and finished in 13th place out of 19 competing programs. The women followed up and also collected 13th place out of 18 teams. The Greyhounds were led individually on the men's side by
AJ Goecker who finished in 50th place at 25:52.5 while
Melissa Spencer guided the women with her 43rd place finish at 18:58.7.

Following behind Goecker on the men's side for UIndy, the duo of
Alexandre Rio (26:42.2) and
Nyc Sigmon (26:48.9) were the first to cross with their 80th and 81st place finishes, respectively.
Andrew Bixler corralled 89th at 27:23.3 while the trio of
Harnoor Dosanjh (95th at 27:40.0),
Abdelouakil Mustapha (97th at 27:54.8), and
Alex Freeman (98th at 27:55.6) stayed close together at the finish. While a handful of new runners saw their first taste of collegiate action with UIndy, Dosanjh was the only returning men's runner to set his new UIndy personal best time on Saturday.

With Spencer pacing the Hounds on the women's side,
Hannah Wells was the second UIndy runner to cross the finish line with her 69th place finish at 19:42.5.
Hanna Stamm (75th at 20:10.4) and
Mariah Davis (78th at 20:17.3) were close behind Wells while
Brianna Lawson (20:24.1) and
Mariah Judy (20:34.1) went back-to-back at 83rd and 84th, respectively.
Gabrielle Harrell capped off the final scoring spot for the Greyhounds with her 90th place finish at 20:51.3.

The Hounds will take a short break and are set to return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Lucian Rosa Invitational held in Kenosha, WI.
