INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at two different meets this weekend to return to action after the recent winter break concluded. A handful of student-athletes made their way over to Bloomington, Ind., for Friday and Saturday action at the Gladstein Invitational held on the campus of Indiana University while most stayed put on campus on Saturday for the UIndy Classic.

GLADSTEIN INVITATIONAL
The Gladstein Invitational featured strong competition for the Hounds as nearly every race saw competing athletes from NCAA Division I institutions.

On Friday, the women saw a trio of Hounds compete in the 3,000-meter run and a pair in the mile. In the 3,000-meter,
Brianna Lawson notched second with a time of 10:13.26. Close behind,
Melissa Spencer added a personal record time after she ended in fourth (10:14.24) while
Mariah Davis collected 12th in the race (10:51.14). In the mile,
Lex Brookshire (5:25.73) and
Hannah Wells (5:25.99) went 21st and 22nd, respectively.

Saturday for the women featured
Emily Sonderman as the lone Hound in the 800-meter run where she notched fourth at 2:17.32.

Over on the men's side, Friday saw three UIndy athletes run in the 3,000-meter event while
Harnoor Dosanjh went as the solo Hound in the mile. In the 3,000-meter, a strong trio made their way around the track with
AJ Goecker leading the way in third (8:26.91) while
Lucas Liard (8:28.43) and
Alexandre Rio (8:35.58) tallied fourth and fifth, respectively. Dosanjh corralled 14th in the mile after crossing with his new indoor PR of 4:26.12.

On Saturday for the men,
Abdelouakil Mustapha,
Devon Whitaker, and
Tom Saint-Juvin took the track in the 800-meter run. In the heat labeled as the "fast section", Mustapha and Whitaker each notched indoor PR's with Mustapha adding a second-place finish and a provisional mark at 1:51.90. Whitaker crossed in sixth at 1:54.18. In the other heat, Saint-Juvin collected second at 1:54.83.

UINDY CLASSIC
The Hounds took care of business at the UIndy Classic with a handful of student-athletes winning their respective event on both sides.

For the women,
Ailliyah Reese grabbed the top spot in the 60-meter hurdles (9.27) while
Hallie Montgomery won both the 60-meter dash (new PR of 7.91) and the 200-meter dash (26.18).
Ellie Lengerich held off the competition for a winning time and a new PR of 2:22.80 in the 800-meter dash and also jumped her way past 1.67 meters to win the high jump while earning a provisional mark in the process.

The top finishes continued to pile up for the women in the field events specifically, as
Sabrina Robison was victorious in the pole vault with a provisional mark (new PR of 3.98 meters),
Rebekah Mappes claimed the best mark in the long jump (5.05 meters),
Emily Bonser tossed a top throw in the shot put (11.99 meters), and
Claire Tabit ended first in the weight throw (14.16 meters).

Over on the men's side, the track saw
Drayden Gates concluding as the top finisher in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.66 while
Jaycee Wilburn rattled off a winning time in the 800-meter dash (2:01.01).

Much like the women, the men's squad corralled a handful of top placers in the field events.
Chandler Martin cleared 1.83 meters to win the high jump,
Treyton Arnold went over the bar at 4.71 meters to win the pole vault,
Dylan Mayhew tossed a winning throw in the shot put (14.67 meters), and
Cameron Smith claimed the best throw and a PR in the weight throw (16.38 meters).

UP NEXT
The Hounds will return to action next weekend in the ARC for the Tom Hathaway Challenge, which will happen on Friday & Saturday on campus.
