ALLENDALE, Mich.— The No. 1/3 UIndy swimming & diving teams had an eventful opening weekend, facing off in dual action at Purdue University Friday night and Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds highlighted the weekend with a win versus the national-ranked men's Grand Valley team in their home pool.

GRAND VALLEY STATE
The Lakers entered the season ranked No. 6 (men) and No. 12 (women) in the
CSCAA Preseason DII Top 25, but the Hounds came out on top in the men's team scores.

Cedric Buessing was a big contributor in a tight men's dual. He easily hit a B standard with a winning time of 9:21.53 in the 1000 free and later cruised to a win in the men's 400 IM.

The UIndy men got big points on the boards as well, as reigning national champ
Julio Osuna surpassed the NCAA standards in winning both the 1-meter (317.47) and 3-meter (297.53). All-American
Jason Lenzo took runner-up on the high board and third on the low.

Celina Schmidt recorded a pair of wins for the UIndy women, touching the wall first in both breaststroke events.
Caroline Reinke won the 100 back and
Stefanie Markwardt took the top spot in the 100 fly.

Two races saw the Hounds take both first and second, as
Andrea Gomez and
Sharon Semchiy went 1-2 in the women's 200 fly while
Joao Silva and
Bartosz Mielniczuk did the same in the men's 500 free. Gomez was just three tenths off a B-cut time.

Other wins on the men's side included
Jeron Thompson (100 back),
Aqeel Joseph (100 fly) and
Silas Buessing (200 back).
Alexis Lumaj earned first-place points for the women on the 1-meter board.

The Hounds won just one of the four relay races, as the men's 200 MR of Thompson,
Brayden Cole,
Oskar Sawicki and Silva out-touched the Lakers by nearly three seconds.

PURDUE
UIndy recorded eight event wins versus the Power-5 Boilermakers, starting with the men's 400 medley relay victory.
Elias Noe joined Thompson, Cole and Silva for a winning time of 3:19.92.

Buessing topped the DI competition with a B-cut winning time of 1:39.64 in the 200 free. He also won the 200 back with another B time (1:47.60), with his brother Silas third.
Â
The Buessing brothers later took first and second in the 200 IM, with Cedric winning with a 1:50.63—just .07 second ahead of Silas. Both hit the B standard.

Schmidt shared first place in the women's 200 breaststroke with a B time of 2:15.96. She also earned second in the 100 breast, finishing just nine one-hundredths behind first place. Her time of 1:03.73 was good for another B cut.

Silva went 20.35 in the 50 free to share first place, while Mielniczuk's 20.76 tied for third. Silva and Thompson placed second and third, respectively, in the 100 free, both touching just shy of a B standard.

Mihir Ambre went 1-2-3 in the 100 fly. Thompson was runner-up in the men's 100 back, while Markwardt finished second in the women's 200 IM.

UIndy hosts GLVC-rival McKendree on Friday, Oct. 27. The Bearcats men's team is ranked No. 2 in the CSCAA poll while the women are ranked 10th.
