ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—UIndy football standouts
Kednal Alexis and
Landry Mavungu were voted to the D2CCA All-Super Region 3 Team, announced Thursday. Â Both Greyhounds earned second-team recognition after leading UIndy to a
nine-win season, a
GLVC championship and an
NCAA DII playoff berth.
Â
A three-time
All-GLVC First Team, Alexis garnered his second consecutive inclusion on the all-region list. The team captain led a unit that ranked seventh in DII in team passing efficiency and 20th in total offense.
Â
Alexis was a 2023 CFB Network Preseason All-America Third Team honoree and is currently up for the Gene Upshaw Award, given annually to the top lineman in Division II. He finished his college career with 36 consecutive starts on the UIndy o-line.
Â
Also a three-time all-conference first teamer, Mavungu made the region's second-team cut on the defensive side of the ball. Â The shutout corner was recently voted the
GLVC Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first-ever cornerback named the league's top defender.
Â
Mavungu amassed two interceptions and six pass break-ups on the season while leading the team's non-linebackers with 51 tackles. He also has an 82-yard touchdown return to his credit (blocked field goal) as well as a
GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week award.
Â
Overall, UIndy was the only GLVC school with multiple all-region honorees. Upper Iowa and Southwest Baptist had one second teamer apiece. The yearly honors were voted on by the region's college sports communicators.
