SMITHVILLE, Mo.—The UIndy men's golf team wrapped up its conference title run Wednesday with the close of stroke play at the 2023 GLVC Championships. The Greyhounds finished in sixth place, falling shy of a top-four spot needed to advance to the medal/match play round. The event was held at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo.
The Hounds carded team scores of 309-311-304 to finish at +60 over 54 holes of stroke play, 12 back of fifth-place Drury and 18 back of fourth-place McKendree. The result marked the first time the Hounds failed to qualify for medal/match play since the league adopted the format in 2012.
The fifth-year senior
Jacob Nickell (+13) carded his best round of the week Monday afternoon in what could be his final collegiate competition. The Wheeling, W.V., native fired a one-over 73—the lowest by a Greyhound all week—to climb five spots and settle at T-18.
Fellow fifth-year
Cam Carroll (+14) carded back-to-back 75s on Monday to also claim a top-25 spot at T-21. But it was junior
Bryce Robertson who had the most consistent output, as his score of +10 was good for a share of 10th place.
Ethan Stanley (+24) tied for 42nd and freshman
Owen Kruschwitz (+38) placed 54th.
The Greyhounds are unlikely to claim a berth in the NCAA DII Regional. However, student-athletes are eligible to be selected as individual competitors, with Carroll owning the best chance at extending his season when the field is announced in the coming days.
