Hounds Conclude Outdoor Regular Season, Prepare for GLVC Meet Next Week

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The UIndy outdoor track & field teams split forces once again in the final regular season meets of the 2023 season. The throwers went to the RedHawk Invitational hosted by Miami University while the rest of the team made the short trip over to Indiana State to compete in the Sycamore Open.

REDHAWK INVITATIONAL
The throwers faced off against NCAA Division I and NAIA competition up in Oxford, Ohio through the two-day event. UIndy saw a pair of top finishes during the meet in Zoe Pentecost and Keeton Adams. In the women's hammer throw, Pentecost stepped up and launched a meet-best throw of 56.90 meters, which was good enough for a provisional mark. Then in the men's shot put, Adams produced a mark of 17.22 meters which also earned him a provo.

Along with the pair of marks above, the Greyhounds also had a handful of other finishes in the top three. Emily Bonser (44.79 meters) and Pentecost (44.21 meters) went second and third, respectively, in the women's discus. Pentecost would also end up corralling third place in the women's shot put (12.74 meters) while Bonser notched third in the women's hammer throw (50.39 meters). For the men, Adams added a third-place finish in the hammer throw (provo, 57.33 meters) while Cameron Smith garnered third in the discus (46.05 meters).

SYCAMORE OPEN
Over in Terre Haute, the Greyhounds battled the field at the Gibson Track & Field Complex on the campus of Indiana State University. In total between both programs, UIndy brought home a quartet of top finishes in Ellie Lengerich, Ailliyah Reese, Drayden Gates, and the women's 4x100-meter relay team.

Beginning with Lengerich, she won the women's high jump after she cleared 1.65 meters and matched the meet record in the process. As for Reese, she stepped up in the women's 100-meter hurdles and beat the field with her provo time of 14.10. Then in the men's 400-meter hurdles, Gates raced his way to a win and a new outdoor personal record at a time of 59.60. Finally, the women's 4x100 relay team of Reese, Joanna Fields, Hallie Montgomery and Olivia Brimmage broke the meet record after clocking in at 47.53.

UIndy also went on to collect a trio of runner-up finishes on Saturday. Sabrina Robison earned second and nearly took down a pair of DI jumpers in the women's pole vault after she cleared 3.91 meters for a provo. Cloey Simon (women's 400-meter hurdles, 1:07.55) and Treyton Arnold (men's pole vault, provo of 4.83 meters) also ended in second in their events.

UP NEXT
UIndy will now set its sights on the GLVC Outdoor Championships next week in Rolla, Mo., on the campus of Missouri S&T. Action is slated to go from Thursday through Saturday.
