INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis track & field teams had a successful weekend at the Division I-heavy IUPUI Invitational, with the teams traveling just 20 minutes north to the Indiana State Fairgrounds for their second opportunity to compete in the newly-built Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion.
Zoe Pentecost,
Ellie Lengerich,
Alex Meyer,
Felix Rivet and
Treyton Arnold were the Greyhounds to see the most success, with the group coming back to the southside with event titles for the two-day event.
Â
DAY 1
Day one saw Lengerich dominate in the pentathlon, where she eventually scored 3547 points for a season best and improved her already-set NCAA provisional mark. The junior placed second in the 60 hurdles, shot put and long jump, while scoring victories in 800 meters and the high jump.
She was not the lone Greyhound to have day-one success as the ever-dangerous Pentecost ran away with the weight throw title, finishing in first with a 19.84 – just 0.01 under her season best set on Jan. 13 at the Robert H. Johnson Open. Claire Tabet fed off the momentum of Pentecost, grabbing a PR of 14.73.
Â
On the men's side,
Alex Meyer, the reigning GLVC Field Athlete of the Week, kept that fire burning, jumping 2.04 for a 0.03 PR and the title. More importantly, Meyer's leap landed him above the NCAA provisional mark of 2.03 meters. Later on Friday, Meyer snagged another podium, landing third in the long jump.
Â
Other notables from day one includes
Mackenzie VanBibber's second place in the pole vault, where she was just 0.02 shy of her career best.
Mariah Judy and
Clare Wigger both had quality days in the mile, each setting a new PR. Rounding out the PR party was
Zaleeya Martin in the 200 meter,
Emma Gaston in the 5000 meter and
Brooklyn Franklin in the long jump.
Â
DAY 2
After a long and grueling day one of competition, the Hounds were right back at the Fairgrounds for day two, which started just like day one did, with Pentecost showing out. The junior, fresh from her weight throw title the day before, landed in third in shot put with a 13.36. Just minutes later, the men's DMR team of
Tom Saint-Juvin,
Harnoor Dosanjh,
Jaycee Wilburn and
Felix Rivet put the banked turns of the Fairgrounds to good use, landing in second with a 10:39.20.
Â
Rivet's day did not end there, as he went on to capture the 3000 meter crown, running a PR of 8:27.31. The event victories kept coming for the Hounds as
Treyton Arnold outlasted a talented field in the pole vault to win the event. Arnold vaulted 4.93, improving his already-impressive provo mark.
Â
Outside of those performances,
Ailliyah Reese landed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles,
Emily Sonderman placed eighth in the 400-meter dash and
Mariah Judy set a new PR of 2:21.74 in the 800.
Â
UP NEXT
The Hounds are on the road for their next meet, making the trip up I-65 to Romeoville, Ill., to take on the Lewis Invitational on Feb. 2.
