Rivet Breaks School Record, Places Second at GLVC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The UIndy men's and women's cross country teams took on the Great Lakes Valley Conference's (GLVC) Cross Country Champions on Saturday. The men claimed sixth place with 164 points and the women placed 10th with 309 points.
 
Junior Felix Rivet was the star of the show for the Greyhounds. Rivet smashed the Greyhound record for an 8k race at 24:06.02 and crossed the finish line in second place, earning All-GLVC honors.
 

The previous record stood for nine years and was held by Alex Cushman who clocked 24:14.6 on Oct. 10, 2015, at the Lewis Conference Crossover.  This is also the highest finish by a Greyhound at conference championships since 2015 when Cushman also placed second.
 

INS & OUTS
Freshman Conyer Wilson was the second Hound to cross the finish line. Wilson clocked 25:33.05, securing 40th place. Sophomore Josue Le Cadre followed his teammate in 51st place. Le Cadre finished in 25:46.05, a new personal record for the French native.
 
Lewis's Evan Horgan won the individual title with a time of 23:23.64. His first-place finish helped lead the Flyers to a conference title with 34 points.
 
On the women's side, junior Emma Gaston was the top finisher for UIndy. Gaston placed 59th after clocking 23:54.42 during the 6K race. Up next was senior Kaylin Casner. Casner completed the race in 25:58.58, placing 104th. Senior Trinity Gleitz was not far behind her teammate in 106th, with a time of 26:07.11.
 
Lewis claimed the GLVC title with nine of the top 10 runners being Flyers. Senior Hannah Smrcka claimed the individual crown at 20:53.42.

"It was a great day to be on the course. Felix's performance was unexpected in a good way, he stuck with the leaders and pushed ahead to get a top-place finish. All around there was a lot of lifetime and personal best on both the men's and women's side."
 
UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will travel to Romeoville, IL for the NCAA DII Midwest Regional Championships in two weeks. The competition will take place on the campus of Lewis University on Saturday, Nov. 9.
