UIndy's Logan, Willey Among 2024 GLVC Hall of Fame Class

INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy greats David Logan and Sue Willey ere among five people elected for induction to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Hall of Fame, it was announced by the Conference office Thursday.

Going them in the GLVC's Class of 2024 inductees were University of Missouri-St. Louis women's golfer Shweta Galande, Ashland University men's cross country runner Dariusz Janczewski and McKendree University wrestler Darren (Dee) Wynn.

Considered one of the greatest men's basketball players in UIndy history, Logan is the program's all-time leading scorer (2,352 points) and won GLVC Player of the Year, National Player of the Year by College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) and D-II Bulletin, and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-America in 2005. Not only did Logan lead all of NCAA Division II in scoring as a senior with 28.6 points per game, he led UIndy to its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and earned his fourth consecutive GLVC postseason event and All-Conference nod that year, which was the third on the First Team. Other accolades included eight GLVC Player of the Week honors in four seasons, three NABC All-District and CSC All-Region awards, with two of those from both organizations being on the First Team, as well as a NABC All-America First Team laurel in 2005. In addition to his record for points scored in the UIndy annals, Logan also holds the top mark for games played (115), is second in field goals made (856), three-points field goals made (321), and steals (187), while he ranks third in scoring average (20.5) and sixth in assists (388). As a team, UIndy had four-straight winning records overall and in GLVC play during his tenure from 2001-02 to 2004-05.
 
After exhausting eligibility in 2005, Logan recently retired from playing professionally overseas, earning accolades such as the 2007-08 PLK (Turkey) Most Valuable Player, 2015 Italian Cup MVP, 2018 French Cup Final MVP, and 2019 Italian Serie A2 Playoff MVP. He returned to school to earn his degree from UIndy in 2019.
 
Willey served as UIndy Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics for 17 years, from 2003 to 2020. The 2012-13 Under Armour Division II Athletic Director of the Year, 2010 Under Armour Division II Central Region Athletic Director of the Year, and 2005 Women Leaders in College Sports (formerly NACWAA) Division II Administrator of the Year guided the Greyhounds to uncharted territory in her time at the helm. Having spent a total of 45 years at the university, Willey established UIndy as one of the top overall athletic programs in Division II. In her tenure, the Greyhounds became regular qualifiers for NCAA postseason play and a consistent threat for Conference, Regional, and National Championships. The Greyhounds finished fifth in the 2018-19 LEARFIELD Sports Directors' Cup standings, notching the program's 13th consecutive top-20 showing in the prestigious standings and seventh top-10 in eight seasons. Overall, UIndy finished in the top 10 on eight occasions in the Directors' Cup standings, including four top-five places. UIndy was just one of only three D-II athletics programs in the country with such a lengthy top-20 streak. In addition, UIndy claimed a pair of D-II National team titles in the sport of women's golf in 2015 and 2018.
 
A 1993 inductee into the UIndy Athletic Hall of Fame, Willey earned an incredible 19 letters and 11 MVP awards in her four-year career. She was the Female Athlete of the Year from 1972-75 and began her coaching career at her alma mater after graduating cum laude from UIndy in 1975. The versatile Willey coached 23 years on campus, directing 43 different teams in five sports. She was the GLVC Softball Coach of the Year in 1989, and her softball teams earned national academic honors in 1996 and 1997. During Willey's tenure, UIndy won an astounding 64 GLVC titles, including a record eight All-Sports trophies. In addition, 64 UIndy student-athletes were named GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in her 17 years, as well as 64 earning Academic All-America honors. Most recently, in retirement, Willey earned the 2023 Division II Athletics Directors Association (D2ADA) Lifetime Achievement Award and was named the NCAA Division II 50th Anniversary Gold Award recipient in 2024.


OTHER INDUCTEES
Galande dominated the links during her career at UMSL from 2009-13, earning four nods to the All-GLVC team, being named 2010 Freshman of the Year, and winning the GLVC Championship in 2011. She set numerous program records during her tenure, including for 36-hole scoring (143) as a junior, 54-hole scoring (230) as a freshman, and 72-hole scoring (310) as a sophomore. The 36-hole mark is currently third all-time, the 54-hole score is tied for fifth all-time, and the 72-hole clip is fourth all-time. Galande sits second all-time with four career wins and graduated as the program's all-time career scoring average leader (77.9) and with three of the top-four lowest individual stroke averages in a season (2012-13, first, 77.5; 2009-10, second, 77.7; 2011-12, fourth, 77.8). Nationally, Galande helped the Tritons to four NCAA Regional appearances, with a sixth-place finish each time, and qualified individually for three NCAA Championships where she finished tied for 27th (80-80-77-74–311) as a freshman, 30th (80-76-69-85–310) as a sophomore, and tied for 37th (79-79-78-77–313) as a senior. In the GLVC Championship, including her medalist honor as a sophomore (74-73–147), she placed third (77-74–151) as a freshman, tied for fifth (76-65–151) as a junior, and fifth (75-80–155) as a senior. The team went fifth, second, third, and second at the GLVC tournament over her career, respectively. Moreover, Galande earned Academic All-GLVC distinction her final two seasons as a Triton.
 
Janczewski was a top-performing athlete on both the cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field teams for Ashland during his tenure from 1985-1989. He was a three-time All-GLVC honoree, GLVC Champion, and Runner of the Year in cross country in 1985, 1986, and 1988. Additionally, Janczewski earned NCAA Division II All-America status as a freshman for placing fifth in the 1985 National Championship 10K (31:56.3), becoming the first male freshman in Eagle history to be named All-American. As a track and field athlete, Janczewski excelled at the National level, placing in the top 10 in the country in several events throughout his career to claim six All-America honors, including the 800-meter run (1986 outdoors, third, 1:49.03; 1987 indoors, sixth, 2:08.95), 1,500-meter run (1986 outdoors, third, 3:44.27; 1987 outdoors, eighth, 3:47.79; 1988 indoors, sixth, 3:51.97), and the steeplechase (1989 outdoors; third; 9:00.56). He also earned Academic All-America distinction in 1989. In 2002, Janczewski was inducted into the Ashland Hall of Fame.
 
The first-ever Bearcat GLVC Hall of Fame inductee, Wynn saw four years of success on the mat during his time at McKendree where he helped the Bearcats to a 59-24 (.711) overall record and 10-2 (.833) GLVC mark during his four years competing. The team also qualified for the D-II Championships all four years (2015-18), including the program's best finish during that span with a fifth-place showing at the 2017 National dual, which preceded McKendree's first GLVC Championship in 2018. Individually, Wynn accumulated a career record of 158-40, earning All-America honors all four seasons. His biggest achievement came in 2016 when he claimed the NCAA title in the 141-pound division, becoming the program's first national champion, and followed that up with a pair of runner-up finishes in 2017 and 2018. He ranks second in program history in falls (41) and seventh in win percentage (.798). Following his athletic career, Wynn started as an assistant coach for Indian Hills Community College before accepting the same position with his current employer, Lindenwood University.

The 2024 GLVC Hall of Fame Class will be the 21st class to be inducted since the establishment of the honor in 2002. With the inclusion of the Class of 2024 in May, the GLVC Hall of Fame membership will expand to 94 former administrators, coaches, and student-athletes.
