LOS ANGELES - The UIndy men's and women's track and field teams faced competition in California and Indiana on a jam-packed weekend. A group of seven Greyhounds made the trip west to compete in the Cal State LA Twilight and Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational. The remainder of the team stuck close by and went to Ball State's, "We Fly" Challenge.
CAL STATE LA TWILIGHT
The Greyhounds opened their time in California at Cal State LA where three Greyhounds finished in first place. Sonderman won the 400m with a time of 56.85.
Tom Saint-Juvin won in the 800m, clocking a time of 1:56.59. Finally,
Felix Rivet was the sole participant in the 3000m steeplechase. The sophomore finished in 9:28.09, a new personal best for the French transplant.
In the field,
Alex Meyer also grabbed a first-place finish. Meyer competed in the long jump alongside
Samuel Sommers. Meyer reached 7.48m while Sommers had a mark of 6.85m placing fifth. Meyer also took place in the high jump where he reached 1.87m and placed second.
BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
The trip's highlight was
Ellie Lengerich breaking the school record in the heptathlon at Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational. Lengerich, who broke the pentathlon record during the indoor season, accumulated 4861 points and finished fourth in her group. The junior passed the previous record made by Elizabeth Hall in 2007 by 470 points. Lengerich also participated in the 400m hurdles. Finishing 22nd overall, she finished 1:01.92. Lengerich reach a DII provisional in both events.
Emily Sonderman ran in the same 400m finishing 39th out of 87 competitors. In this race, Sonderman had a new personal best of 56.07. Also, on the track
Hadley Fisher took on the 10000m, finishing 11th. Fisher clocked a time of 35:52.58 and passed the DII provisional.
WE FLY CHALLENGE
In the pole vault, both UIndy men and women had a successful day.
Sabrina Robison and
Mackenzie VanBibber finished first and second respectively. Robison claimed the top spot after clearing 4.00m while VanBibber tied for second with 3.65m. On the men's side
Treyton Arnold took fifth (4.85m) and
Keywuan Taylor rounded out the vaulters in seventh (4.10m).
In the throws,
Zoe Pentecost finished first in the hammer throw. Pentecost, who continues to lead the nation in the event, reached 59.52m. The senior also competed in the shot put where she placed 11th with 12.62m. On the men's side three Greyhounds finished inside the top 10 in the shot put.
Bryson Adams took fifth (15.06m),
Dylan Mayhew in seventh (14.97m), and
Cameron Smith rounded out in 10th (14.50m).
On the track,
Ndubisi Eze took on the 110m hurdles finishing in third place. Eze completed the race in 14.46, the fastest in his career.
Ailliyah Reese competed in both the 100m hurdles and 100m dash. In the hurdles, Rees clocked 15.34 and took fifth while in the dash she finished 11th with a time of 12.14.
Brandon Ellis and
Jaycee Wilburn were the top finishers for the UIndy distance squad. Both finished second in their event, Ellis in the 3000m steeplechase (10:11.70) and Wilburn in the 800m (1:56.57).
Devon Whitaker was not far behind his teammate in the 800m. Whitaker clocked 1:47.17 and took fourth.
