INDIANAPOLIS— The UIndy football program ended its 2024 spring ball schedule Saturday afternoon with the annual UIndy Spring Game at Key Stadium. After the rosters was split into two teams earlier in the week, Team Black held on for a 22-14 win over Team Grey.
Â
Team Grey made it a game with a late rushing touchdown by
Cole Cardwell followed by a defensive stop. With the clock dwindling in a one-score game, Grey drove inside the red zone but failed to convert on fourth down to seal it for Black.
Â
Reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Year
Gavin Sukup led Team Black, passing for 164 yards and three scores while rushing for 29 yards.
Kaleb Carver was his go-to target, as the Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native racked up 85 yards on just three receptions, including a pair of 30-plus-yard TD grabs.
Â
Chris Mullen QB'd the Grey squad, finishing with 167 passing yards, including a 22-yard scoring strike to
Peyton Hawkins. Hawkins and
Brad Schultz had four catches apiece.
Â
Team Black running backs
Jon Lewis and
Jaden Schlabach combined for 58 yards on the ground.
Â
Defensively, four different players were credited with at least one tackle for a loss, with
Amarion Evans leading the way with 2 TFLs.
Wrigley Franklin had two sacks for Team Black, while
Eli Carter had an interception.
Â
Brian Houk highlighted the kicking efforts with his 37-yard field goal good for the first score of the game.
