INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis announced on Friday the resignation of women's basketball head coach Marc Mitchell, effective immediately. Mitchell was announced as the next head coach of Division I Indiana State earlier Friday.
Â
"We wish Marc our very best and great success at Indiana State," said UIndy Interim Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. D. Scott Gines. "Marc has a wonderful head coaching pedigree across Divisions I, II, and III, building and re-building programs, and we are grateful for his time, dedication, leadership, and efforts at UIndy."
Â
Mitchell was named the 10th head coach in UIndy women's basketball history in June 2022. In his two-year tenure, the Greyhounds were 31-27 with a GLVC Championship Tournament appearance in 2023. Four players claimed All-GLVC recognition in that time, including
Liv Becker,
Patricia Chikamba,
Sadie Hill, and
Elana Wells (twice).
Â
Additionally, 10 players received Academic All-GLVC honors last year.
Â
Prior to taking over at UIndy, Mitchell served as the Saint Peter (DI) bench boss from 2018-22 and FDU-Fordham (DIII) head coach from 2009-18. Mitchell led FDU-Fordham to a national championship in 2014 with a perfect 33-0 campaign and was named the Division III Coach of the Year. He left FDU-Fordham as the winningest head coach in program history.
Â
Mitchell graduated from Kean University in 2000 with a History degree and later earned a Master's in Education from American Intercontinental in 2008.
Â
A search for the next UIndy women's basketball head coach will begin immediately.
