INDIANAPOLIS – In its final tune-up before the conference championships, the
nationally-ranked UIndy swimming & diving teams cruised past visiting Northern Kentucky Saturday afternoon at the Ruth Lilly Center Natatorium. A first-year program, the Norse traveled a small contingent to Indianapolis, including just one woman. The resulting final scores showed the UIndy women as 208-4 victors, while the Greyhound men won 214-40.
INS & OUTS
The UIndy women had a number of notable times as they get closer to the NCAA Championships.
Andrea Gomez highlighted the day with an automatic qualifying mark in the 1000, as her time of 9:52.88 was just off her own school-record pace.
Brynhildur Traustadottir also hit an NCAA standard in the 1000, putting up a B-cut time of 10:17.73.
Gomez later improved on her B standard in the 100 fly with a winning time of 55.07, good for a personal best.
Both
Mia Krstevska (500 free) and
Celina Schmidt 200 (free) posted new B-cuts. The latter's time of 4:58.40 – which put her name in the UIndy top 10 – was perhaps made more impressive by the fact that she swam her heat all by her lonesome.
Caroline Reinke and
Isabella Revstedt won the 100 free and 100 back, respectively, with both improving on existing B-cut times. Two more Hounds did the same in the 100 back, as Schmidt (55.12) and
Julia Magierowska (55.57) followed closely behind their teammate.
The women's 200 free relay of
Kirabo Namutebi, Revstedt, Magierowska and
Jasmin Hoffmann combined for an NCAA provisional time of 1:32.88, while
Hanna Burke shaved a couple tenths off her UIndy top-10 time in the 200 fly (2:05.19).
The UIndy men had fewer times of note but still racked up 14 event wins.
William Pettifer won the 1000 free with a B-cut time of 9:26.07
Elias Noe (50 free, 100 free) and
Wassim Medjbeur (200 free, 500 free) each earned a pair of wins.
Cedric Buessing won the 200 breast in his first go in the event this season.
The quartet of
Aqeel Joseph,
Jokubas Jankaukas,
Evan Higgins and
Eli Pache capped the meet with an exciting win in the 200 free relay (1:26.02).
In the diving well,
Alexis Lumaj swept the women's events, finishing just ahead of runner-up
Megan Sunderman on both the 1- and 3-meter boards.
Adam Carr won both of the men's diving events.
