FAYETTE, IA. – The No. 18 ranked UIndy wrestling team's three dual win streak was snapped on Friday night after Upper Iowa defeated the Greyhounds 29-9. This was a battle between schools that featured three-ranked match ups in the 141, 197 and 285 weight classes.
The Hounds picked up one win in those three ranked match ups, with Derek Blubaugh winning at 197. Along with Blubaugh's win in 197, UIndy also picked up two more wins from Jadon Gyan (125) and Nathan Conley (157).
INS & OUTS
This is the first regular season match up between these two schools, with the only other match up coming in the 2024 GLVC Tournament.
The Hounds started fast in the 125 weight class with Jadon Gyan taking down Jackson Heaston in a close 8-6 decision. The freshman from Dayton, OH. earned his first victory since the Jim Koch Open in November when Gyan won via tech fall against Davenport's Roan Cooper.
Upper Iowa took the next three match ups in the dual before Nathan Conley won a nail biter in sudden victory over Dalton Schams, earning three points for the team. This is Conley's second individual victory in the team's last three duals, with his other victory coming in the Maryville dual over Javier Gutierrez.
No. 1-ranked Blubaugh closed off the night with the Hounds final victory in 197 over No. 14-ranked Geoffrey Freeman in a close 4-2 decision. The match didn't see its first points for either wrestler until the third period.
Tonight's win marks Blubaugh's third win on the season against a top-20 ranked opponent, and extending his unbeaten streak to 15 which dates back to the 2024 season.
