INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis and Marian University announced a home-and-home football agreement for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. The joint announcement marks the renewal of what has been dubbed the Monumental Matchup, named after the city's iconic centrally-located landmark.
Indianapolis' only two scholarship college football teams, the Greyhounds and Knights will open the '25 slate at Marian on Thursday, August. 28 at 6 p.m. Separated by just eight miles, the two programs have faced off only two previous times, first in 2015 and again in '16.
The crosstown meeting will be the first Monumental Matchup for current head coaches
Chris Keevers of UIndy and Ted Karras, Jr., of Marian, though the former was a UIndy assistant back in 2015 and '16.
"We had only 10 games on the schedule this year," UIndy Head Coach
Chris Keevers explained, "and we have a good football team so I wanted to play 11. So I got with Ted Karras, Marion's head coach, and we put together this game in week zero. Both programs are really excited. We know them, they know us, and our kids are jacked up about it. I know our fan base and our alumni will be excited about it as well.
"We're gonna open there next year but we really want to make it a home game for us. We're going to really try to get our fan base out there and make it as close to a home game as you can get. It's going to be a great environment."
Added Karas, "This is a great opportunity for the city of Indianapolis and for our football program. The game will be a strong early test for our football team, and we look forward to opening our season under the lights on the West Side."
UIndy is coming off a 10-2 season last fall, hitting double digits in regular-season wins for just the fourth time. The Greyhounds also earned their third consecutive NCAA DII playoff berth and a third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference title.
Meanwhile, Marian recorded an 8-2 record last season, finishing with a 4-1 record in the MSFA Midwest League while ending with a co-conference championship in their first year in the west division.
The Knights won both previous meetings, including a 28-22 victory at Marian week two of the 2015 campaign and a 38-16 victory a year later at Key Stadium.
