CHICAGO - The UIndy men's and women's track and field team traveled to Chicago on Friday to compete in the Lewis Invitational. A small group of student-athletes stayed behind and went to the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the Fairgrounds Invitational. This was the last time the Greyhounds had a chance to compete at the Fairgrounds before the NCAA DII Championships in March.
INS & OUTS
Maya Efodi claimed first place in the women's weight throw in the Lewis Invitational. The freshman won the event with a new personal best mark of 16.71m. Fellow Freshman
Loria Snowden had a first-place finish of her own in the shot put. Snowden, a UIndy women's basketball team member, reached 12.91m in her first meet with the Greyhound track & field squad.
Faith Hensel (12.74m) and
Amanda Noel (12.28m) grabbed second and third place, respectively, in the event.
On the track,
Hailey Orosz ran in the women's mile, finishing in 4:46.30, a new personal best.
Madison Schofield took on the 60m dash and the 200m. In the 60m dash, Schofield clocked 7.93, a new personal best, placing fourth. In the 200m, the senior placed ninth with a time of 26.67. On the men's side,
Jack Scoggins lined up for the 60m hurdles and took eight (8.97) in the finals.
Keywuan Taylor and
Mackenzie VanBibber competed in the pole vault for the Greyhounds, both finishing in third. Taylor cleared 4.12m, and VanBibber cleared 3.61m.
At the Fairgrounds, Tome Saint-Juvin competed in the 800m, completing the four laps in 1:53.95 to secure first place. Saint-Juvin along with
Jalen Larkey,
Josiah Adams, and
Josue Le Cadre, took on the men's 4x400m. The team finished in first place after finishing in 3:26.53.
Emily Sonderman took on the women's 400m and competed against some big NCAA DI school. Sonderman showed out and took third after clocking 57.09. The women's 4x400m team claimed second place with a time of 3:54.63; the team featured
Jorjia Ferguson,
Ellie Lengerich,
Trinity Gleitz, and Sonderman.
Lengerich also competed in the long jump at the fairgrounds. Lengerich reached 5.56m, a season-best jump, and placed second.
Audra Hogan and
Zoe Pentecost placed second and third, respectively, in the weight throw with the same mark of 17.74m.
In men's field events,
Alex Meyer claimed second in the long jump after reaching 7.35m.
Cameron Smith competed in the shot put (14.77m) and the weight throw (17.50m). Smith placed fourth in the shot put and third in the weight throw.
UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will travel to Allendale, Mich., to compete in the GVSU Big Meets. There are two separate meets at GVSU, one Friday and one Saturday. These meets are some of the biggest in the country, featuring student-athletes from all over the country and all NCAA divisions.
