AZUSA, Cal. - The UIndy men's and women's track and field sent
Ellie Lengerich to the West Coast to compete in the Bryan Clay Invite Multis on Thursday and Friday. The rest of the team competed in the 120th Indiana Little State Championships on Friday and Saturday.
BRYAN CLAY MULTIS
Ellie Lengerich competed in the heptathlon for the first time this season and broke her own program record. The senior competed against athletes from Division I and Division II on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.
Lengerich compiled 5029 points over the two days. It included a second-place finish in the high jump (1.64m) and a new personal best in the 200m (26.05). Lengerich also surpassed the DII Provo mark and is now ranked 12th in the country.
INDIANA LITTLE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Hounds took on the 120th edition of the Indiana Little State Championships. UIndy competed against 17 small schools in Indiana. Both squads placed fourth in the team standings; the men earned 76 points while the women gathered 80 points. Host Indiana Wesleyan won the women's title with 119 points and Indiana Tech won on the men's side with 135 points.
On the track,
Emily Sonderman placed third in the 200m dash with a new PR of 25.06. Coley Simon also set a new PR; she took fifth in the 400m hurdles at 1:05.80.
Jack Scoggins took on the men's 400m, placing third with 54.34.
Josiah Adams and
Jalen Larkey finished back-to-back in the men's 400m dash. Adams placed fourth at 49.06 and Larkey ran a 49.36 to place fifth.
Carlos Rodriguez claimed fifth place in the 5000m after finishing in 15:05.07.
Lex Wilhelm and
Emma Gaston placed sixth and ninth respectively in the women's 5000m. Wilhelm ran a career-best 18:51.42 and Gaston finished in 19:04.93.
Zoe Pentecost broke the 60m mark for the first time this season in the hammer throw. Pentecost threw for 60.34m, which will put her inside the top three in the event's national rankings.
MaKenna Maschino (51.64m) and
Audra Hogan (50.36m) followed behind their teammate in second and third, respectively.
Amanda Noel placed third in the Javelin with 36.33m. In men's throws,
Dylan Mayhew won the hammer and placed second in the shot put. In the shot, Mayhew reached 15.73m and followed with a 54.99m throw in the hammer.
Cameron Smith was close behind his teammate in the Hammer, placing second with a mark of 54.12m.
In the men's long jump,
Alex Meyer reached 7.36m to win the event. Sammy Sommers placed third in the same event with 6.98m.
Mackenzie VanBibber took second in the women's pole vault after clearing 3.75m.
The men's 4x100m relay and the women's 4x400m had a great showing at the meet. The men's team placed fourth with a time of 42.47. The squad included
Anthony Linville,
Jalen Larkey,
Matthew Stewart, and
Brandon Wheat. Running for the women was
Emily Sonderman,
Ashley Sanderson,
Marina Agapios, and
Cloey Simon. They finished third after completing the race in 3:57.98.
UP NEXT
A small group of Hounds will return west to California to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Cal. This meet will begin on Wednesday, April 16, and last through Friday the 17th. The remaining athletes will travel to Terra Haute, Ind to compete in the Gibson Invitational. This will also be a three-day meet, beginning on Thursday and will conclude on Saturday.
