ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The UIndy men's and women's track and field teams had three school records broken and two GLVC champions crowned on day two of the GLVC Outdoor Conference Championships. Hosted on the campus of Lewis University. After two days, both squads sit in second place. The women have 43 points while the men have 70 points.
The last day of competition will kick off with field events beginning at 9 a.m. ET, with the running events following at noon.
FRIDAY
Ellie Lengerich broke her own school record in the heptathlon to start the day. Lengerich gathered 5052 points, 23 points better than her previous personal best. The senior won four events- 200 m dash, shot put, high jump, and the 800m- which helped her push past the competition.
Cole Hurt placed second in the decathlon with 6476. This earns Hurt the program record in the event, which was originally set by multis/jumps coach
Trace Oswalt in 2018.
Joanna Fields was the third Greyhound to break a school record. Fields surpassed Lengerich's record with her second jump of 5.86m. With this mark, the junior placed third in the long jump for the second straight year.
Alex Meyer was the second Hound to win a conference title. Meyer won the long jump with a mark of 7.47m, a personal best.
Freshmen duo
Hannah Dart and
Loria Snowden placed second and third, respectively. Dart set a new PR at 13.71m with Snowden reaching 13.49m.
Mackenzie VanBibber took second in the women's pole vault. VanBibber cleared a personal best height of 3.88m to take the silver.
UIndy short-distance runners also stepped on the track for the first time for the preliminary races. Advancing to tomorrow's finals are
Josiah Adams (400m),
Emily Sonderman (400m), Curt Danke (800m),
Josue Le Cadre (800m),
Cloey Simon (400m hurdles), and
Jack Scoggins (400m hurdles).
THURSDAY
Zoe Pentecost secured the first gold medal for the Greyhounds this year. Petecost won the hammer throw for the fourth straight year with a season's best mark of 61.35m.
Audra Hogan finished second in the women's hammer. Hogan set a new PR of 55.85m to earn the silver. In the men's hammer,
Cameron Smith had a PR of his own at 56.63m to place third.
Carlos Rodriguez and
Emma Gaston competed in the 10,000m on Thursday night. Roriguez claimed seventh at 31:34.92, a career best as a Greyhound. Gaston placed 14th in her race after finishing in 41:18.88.
The only preliminary event on the track was the 1500m. Le Wilhelm advanced to Saturday's finals after completing the race in 4:48.10, a new PR, to earn the seventh seed.
Josue Le Cadre won his heat of the 1500m to advance. Le Cadre completed his race in 3:56.71.
